Decision Decision

So i'm at a stand still right now, my wife and i have decided that we would take my jeep to the east coast this summer (one of them project that got shelved while i was overseas). now i'm thinking that i should switch the 454 out of the wagon and the 70 LT1 out of the jeep, reasons being. the drivetrain in the jeep is indestructable (farmer 4 sp w/ gear driven tranfer case out of a 1 ton gmc) and the 454 can't kill it but it will shredd the saggy 4 sp in the wagon. neither vehicle has a exhaust systen as of yet or electrical. the tunnel ram on the 454 isn't condusive to the hood scoop on the wagon but isn't a issue for the jeep. just have to cut a hole. and i can use the bigger oil pan in the jeep because there is no cross member in the way. also the LT1 would fit better in the wagon because as of now the value cover are in the way of everything. so i've pretty well decide i'm going to switch engines. now reference the tunnel ram on a 454. i'm getting conflicting info on carbs. as of right now i have the old 600 holly vac sec from my 55 and thinking 2 x 600 would work. some people have recommended 2 x 450 cfm w/ mech sec. is there any reason i don't want the 2 x 600 w/ vac sec. not a racing issue, we know its more show then go. any opinions, now remember i'm of scotish heritage and have short arms and deep pockets and i'm trying to reuse stuff that i have.

I would have no worries trying a pair of vac secondary 600's on a 454. It should easily handle that.

That LT1 would make a sweet wagon engine anyway. I think you finally got it right!

Oh, and I'm a Scotsman as well, way back anyway.

if is wasn't for the fact that the 283 is on the original motor mount which are off the front of the block and on the bellhousing it could have been viable. i just got back from brantford and the speed shop there said 2 x 450 w/ mechanical secondaries. because vacuum will be an issue and the 450's were originally built for tunnel rams. so i'll be looking for those too.
