put a sheet of aspenite ( chip board  4x8) under the car , it will absorb moistue
go to a pool supply place & get tubes of desecant salt & place them on paper plates in the car , & trunk , it will keep the musty smell out of the interior

if you have a spare set of rims with crappy tires on them - put them on & crank the pressures up , this will prevent your good tires from getting flat spots or cracked sidewalls

65beau   &  im2ner   Good tips    I leave the heat on 45-50 so I can leave the doors ajar.  Is the crystals, the same as the desecant salt?

be honest in 20 years, all i've done is put other tires on and bounce sheets inside and in the trunk (keeps mice out, and smells alright)... i do put fuel stabilizer in now, depends how far you feel you need to go... some people back off their valve springs! you could fog your cylinders, i do that on the boat for the winter. i leave the windows partly open... i used to put it on jackstands but i dont think that really matters since the other 8 months it sits on its own tires... dessicant is a great idea if it has a chance of being warm and humid, a full gas tank prevents condensation in the tank when the temps change... its too cold here for that... others swear by a zippered car bag...

I remember reading somewhere about the pros and cons of putting the car up on jackstands.
Good for the suspension yes, but a real pita if the car has to be pushed out of the garage quickly if you ever have a housefire!

I use jackstands and put pie plates upside down inbetween the stand and the car, seems to keep the mice out, they can't climb over the pie plate. I live in the country so there is lots of mice around, been storing the car like this for 10 years and no mice.

Hammer, have you ever posted pictures of your car?

I looked through some of your posts and couldn't find any.

I doubt that I am the only one who would like to see it...

I heard that jack stand under the frame can distort it after a long period of time ? I like the old crappy tires idea, stabil in the gas tank and moose poison feed, make sure you visit your baby often and it should scare the mice away. Also, I check the antifreeze strenght if the storage isn't heated, I turn the engine once a month as well.

I usually just back into the garage. Sometimes I've disconnected the battery. Start it in the spring and drive it out. Going on 25 years and no problems.

Ditto. For computer cars, unhooking the battery is important. I left our 94 Impala SS for 2 year, battery off and it started right up.

Years ago I used to remove the battery and put them in the house, warm storage on wooden shelves. The batteries were often junk after a year or two of that. Someone taught me that it's better to leave a fully charged battery cold. They were right, far less battery trouble that way.

I remember when I had my 58 Plymouth. I had just taken it out of winter storage, drove 15 miles or so to a friends place. Got out of the car, knocked on his door and happened to look back at the car to see a mouse peek out from a wheel well, and run down the tire and scurry away!
Since then I followed a tip from a friend to put Irish Spring soap thruout the car. I don't know if it is effective or not, but the car sure smells nice come Spring!

This picture was taken a few minutes after my car came out of a long rest, about 3 or 4 years in an old mouse filled shed. As I clicked the shot, I felt something on my pant leg. It was one of a few mice that had been living in the car, and he was feeling the need to climb up my leg! I should have taken another shot of the kids they were laughing so hard when they saw that!

I guess it worked, a couple of pics of assembly. it has been finished for about 7 years now, 700 miles since being restored. I know, I don't drive it enough!

I hope I don't hurt your feelings but that Beaumont appeals to me way more than the Camaro behind it!

Since its time to store car again,(already done) I was reading about the pie plate under the stands?

I can't believe, a mouse can't climb over it?    They seem to get to higher levels, in my small shed?
