It was used on both; however the Malibu SS name was used everywhere in 64/65, but Canada only in 66/67. There was also a 300 Deluxe series used in the U.S 65-69, but Canada only in 1970-72 (plus 65, 68/69).

When I was a kid at the gas station, I used to fill up a 70 300 (Deluxe?) 350 2 barrel single exhaust bench seat 4 speed car. What an oddball....

Hi Guys
I'm new here but I'm a member over at Team Chevelle.  I joined here because I'm looking at a 69 Beau but read this post and thought I'd write.  I live in Thunder Bay(northern Ontario).  About 10-14(1995-1996) years ago I was walking through a countryside local wrecking yard that was a family owned business.  It's off the beaten path but use to have older cars before scrap prices skyrocketed.  I spotted what looked like a 64-65 Malibu in a back field.  At the time I didn't know Beaumonts that well or that they were made that early.  I was curious so I checked it out.  I am positive it was badged as a SD and I'm 95% positive it was badged as a SD396!  Thats what made me remember it and really check it over.  I wanted to see if it had the 396 for a Chevelle I had!  Back then Chevelles were way more popular.  I kick myself now! lol  It was a really faded red/maroon and had a black interior.  It had a 12 bolt for sure still in it but I can't remember if it was an auto or stick.  The motor and tranny were gone.  The car looked like it had been sitting for 15-20 years.  So that would roughly put it being last on the road around 1975-76 1981-82.  Who would fake a SD396 car back then when these cars were cheap and unwanted?  When I read about the maple leaf emblem it made me think that I saw one on the quarters or hood of the car but I'm a little hazy now about this detail.  I actual mentioned it on the Team Chevelle Beaumont section and the guys there flatout said impossible so I didn't persue it.  Having read this thread I'm going to contact the owner of the yard and see if he remembers this car or what happened to it.  Why would the car end up here in northern Ontario?  Well back in the day this small community was a hotbed for fast muscle cars.  We had grain elevators at our large port running at full tilt in the 60-70's with young guys making really good cash.  Alot of muscle incuding Hemi's, LS6's, etc. were bought out of here in the earliy 90's from guys outta town.  I just recently picked up an original LS6 from a guy who had it stored for 20 years.  I'll post what the yard owner says.

Welcome here Steve. Any and all Canadian Poncho stories are welcome here too!

Glad to have you aboard. I have only been to TB once to pick up our Roadmaster when we bought it but I hope to come back some day. I thought it looked like a very cool little city.

I must be simple. I get the differance in the vin# but I don't really know what the differance in the actual car is?

There are differences in the euipment virtually every year for the 300 vs. 300 Deluxe.

In  the case of a '67, the 300 Deluxe adds some things over the base 300 equipment: rear arm rests, colour-keyed textured vinyl-covered rubber floor covering (rather than plain black rubber), bright dash strip, rocker molding, different rear cover emblem. The seat are about the same quality and have the same padding, but fancier cloth inserts are used on the seats. Door panels are different as well.

In the U.S. for '67 the 300 was offered as a 2 or 4-door sedan, whereas the 300 Deluxe offered a 2 & 4-door sedan, the base wagon plus the base El Camino.

The 300 Deluxe was offered in Canada in 1965, then dropped. It came back in 1968. When the 300 Deluxe was dropped after 1969 in the U.S., the 300 Deluxe became a Canada-only offerring. In 1970 it was a series, for 1971 & 1972 it became an RPO trim package (RPO Z35) for the base Chevelles.

cool thanx for the info. Would you say a 2dr sedan in a Beaumont would be most equal to 300 Deluxe? Or were they subject to lots of different options?
