Guys,
I have to report a crime in progress. It's a long story and I'll try to be brief. Just so you'll read this - a solid '57 sport coupe was crushed for scrap iron! There are another dozen '57s to be crushed.

Most of you have noticed the gravitation between Chevy people. I'm sure it's not just my imagination. That's how I met Claude. I just stopped to get gas in the middle of nowhere & chatted with this older guy who was also filling up. That was 20 years ago.
Turns out he owns about 100 classic cars, almost half of which are tri-fives.
You couldn't ask for a better Chevy buddy.
Claude died of leukemia fall '06.

Fast forward to this past July.
Claude's wife is finally coming to terms with Claude's passing.
The local Chevrolet dealer salesman who sold Claude his last new Chevrolet connects Claudes wife with a scrap dealer friend. You see, there is actually a substantial mass of steel on the property & steel is (was) going for the highest $$ in history. The dealer arrives on the property & makes an offer to buy everything made of metal.
She agrees.
Fast forward to last week.
Scrap steel has gone from $600/ton to $50/ton. The scrap dealer is in trouble financially. His CPA constructs a plan to write off the investment of Claude's cars & metal. They must have sold the investment (cars & metal) to confirm that there is an actual loss.
Every car will be crushed or sold for $2250/ea. by December 26th.
The $2250 figure is something the CPA came up with. The date has to do with the "close of books" for the business fiscal year. The CPA is clearly not aware of collector cars, just commodity metals.

Look at the photobucket album.
Some cars are sold, some are crushed, all are solid.

ARE THEY OUT OF THEIR MINDS?  Someone, has to get a lawyer involved, and get a court order for some time....there's got to be a lot of people, who can come with 2250.00 or more for that stuff... Call newspaper, and make it a "little old lady" getting beat story...

I agree this would be tragic - that gold 65 Ch*vy 4 door hardtop looks like you could fire it up and just drive away - but what is his widow supposed to do?  She just wants to be rid of all the stuff and pocket a little cash with the least amount of trouble.  Surely some Ch*vy enthusiasts must have known about this stash for years?  How come none of them have stepped up to the plate in the two years since this guy died and done something?  Like I said, sad, but I really don't know what anyone expects her to do now.hmm

It's a sad sight. Probably people who knew about this collection thought it would never be lost or someone else would save it. It's a real waste if you ask me, just speaking in respect to the old car hobby.

Where are the cars located? Is that all the details provided? Something seems a little fishy on this one don't you think? Local Chevy guys can't all be asleep on this one. A lot of it is just scrap, but there is a pile of good parts as well as a few or more worth rescuing!!

That email that circulated this year about all those cars in a building cemented shut that people bought and "inherited" was not exactly factual either. Not saying this is false, but there is likely more to it than we read here.

If it's posted on a Chevy site by now someone must have figured out what's going on with them. I mean there are too many Chevy lovers around to let these get crushed without at least stripping them first!
