RE: Anyone enjoy automotive trivia? Join in!!!

Not the answer I'm looking for, but I guess that is possible.

The particular thing I'm looking for is visible from the outside of the car.

The Hurst Olds trunk was gloss black. For some reason I thought for years that they were flat black but the Hurst Heritage book says otherwise.

Next-

This one should be easier---- Where are the fresh air inlets for the engine located on a 67 442 with the W30 option?

The Judge prototype (the ET ) was a 2 door post car.

Are  you sure about this Carl?  I have consulted all of my 1969 Pontiac literature (including the 1969 Performance catalogue) and all the pictures of the prototype that I have are of a hardtop.  Can you post a picture please?

Clay Models, of the 64 Chevelle / Nova

Early production Nova was discontinued to make way for the new 64 Nova, as shown above . The nova was recontinued mid-year after these cars were renamed Malibu . Maverick comes from discussions at GM prior to the Nova stuff . The pictures , ont he turntable are the car i was telling you about befor. 1 door one side, and 2 doors on the ther side, but it doesnt doesnt show the other side unfortunatly . The car third down on the right is your first 64 Chevelle / Nova , and is tagged Nova ( January '63 )Late April '63 Malibu badge first appeared on the rear quater , though the grille wasnt yet finalized ( bottom row ) .

According to Jim Wanger's book "Glory Days", Pontiac prepared a prototype A-body to compete with Plymouth's low-priced Road Runner. Called the "E.T", a 2 door sedan was chosen with a LeMans hood and front bumper. Engine was the 350 with 400 H.O heads. A bench seat was used instead of buckets. John DeLorean rejected the car saying "As long as I have anything to say about it, there will never be a GTO with anything less than a 400 cubic inch engine!. I recognize what you are trying to do, and I support the concept, but get that !@*% 350 out of that car!" He then said "Bring this car up to GTO standards and then we'll figure out how to cut the price".

They went back to the drawing board and started with a hardtop and convertible, installed the buckets and used the Endura front end. The hood scoops returned. The only thing that remained were the Rally II wheels less trim rings.

So, I guess one could say two prototypes were made-the rejected one and the accepted one!

I can't find a photo of the E.T online but there is a picture in the book.

This helps with this trivia question..  I don't know the answer.. If Bunkie Knudsen, John Deloran, Pete Estes, Jim Wangers were looking after the U.S. Pontiacs and GTO's....1.--Who was/were the man/men who looked after Canadian Pontiac DESIGN?   2.-- Who decided to reskin the ChevyII and Chevelle, and called them Acadian, Beaumonts? 3. -- And who decided to make Strato Chief, Laurentian, Pariesenne's so different ? (They are actually more, radical in difference, to the U.S. Pontiacs)

Hmm, will you guys be happy if we call this one a draw then? Todd has posted the info on the car I mean, but I can't find my picture. I have the roadtest somewhere for it. If I remember right, the picture is on a pretty high bank of an oval track.

Good bunch of researchers on here!

Yup. If I recall right, it's even split with an upper and lower opening in the headlight bezel but it is for sure between the headlights.

Ok, so the 68 Hurst Olds trunk question is still not answered.

Next-

What common performance option available on the 70 Chevelle SS was not available on the 71 and 72 SS350 Chevelles?

Apparently cowl induction was not available on small block Chevelle SS, only on the big blocks.

This answer may be different since I did this quiz many years ago (maybe 15-20 years)

Where is Z16 production #1 today?

Carl, no draw, I posted a photo of an early car that carries the name The Judge on it and it is a 2dr. hardtop GTO.

How can you say the ET was a Judge prototype? It was based on a Tempest body and it had a 350 engine. If anything the ET was the prototype for the Tempest Custom S 350 HO.

As Todd says there were two different prototypes on the A body and I posted the one that is the Judge. wink

Yup, I had Floyd Garrett as owner. Neat car. Apparently it had some unique pieces compared to the other Z16's.

I'm at work and my list is at home, but I recall one of the questions on the sheet. What car company did Johnny Carson buy 250,000 shares in? (Approx 1974)

Wow I've been missing the fun!.
A couple things to comment on...

One, there was another 427 ZL1 Camaro shipped to a Canadian dealer, Nurse Chev Olds in Whitby Ontario..
GM sent the car there to have a ZL1 engine close by for Eaton's CanAm team car when he was running at Mosport..
I forget what became of it or if they ended up pulling the engine or not...what's strange is CanAm ZL1's are different displacements, 494 is one I think, I forget the other..

On the Z16, the Prototype was Dave Miner's car...sadly Dave just passed away a just few months ago.. He was a great guy and thankfully his Z16 website as shown above has been resurected by his friends and family..
I remember he told me once that his Prototype had the standard non-boxed frame unlike the production Z16 cars which all had the boxed convert. frames..
Another cool 'kind've' Z16 fact is GM built one Mk1V 2-Dr. Post car, a black car that even one upped the Hydraulic Lifter L37 396/375 motor of the Z16's as it had the 1965 only L78 396/425 Solid Lifter motor!.
