well.. today is another sad day in the beaumont world. a couple of years ago I stopped in to see about a 64 SD rag top in the driveway. The guy that lived in the house didnt own the car but said that there was at least one person a week asking about it. From what he told me.. the owner would sell if you paid an incredible amount of money.. the unfortunate thing is.. as I looked at it, with the torn top, and back seat exposed to all elements.. the hood was nearly rusted shut.. the lawn looked dead through the holes in the floor.. it's just a shame.. might be some parts that are worth keeping or restoring.. the SD chrome was REALLY pitted.. but appeared to be all there. Frame.. rotten.. I've enclosed a photo of it as of today (Dec. 28th 2008). full of snow.. and re-joining the earth with it's metal.
there used to be a 64 SD rag here in Welland near Chippawa park-it sat there for years very rotten "going to fix it someday" I was very suprised 10 years ago when he sold it-it was only weeks later he commited suicide.
This is the one that you chased off of a email. All rags are leaky condos unless there frame off restos and kept dry. You would be better to buy the 64 custom with sd trim on used victoria. He is a good guy and the car is nice. The condition of the car is the key. If you can pick a solid rag for 20K to 25K it is cheaper than doing your own.
always best to buy the best car you can get your hands on-it'll always pay you back.
interesting the topic of rarity and quality-would I prefer a wrong motor 1/2 quarter/floors replaced BBSD or a super low mile original 283 powerglide custom hardtop ?

That is a very tough call. it depends what you want to do with the car. If you are a trophy collector you better take the low mile original 283. If you want to to peel with the car and have a ton of fun AND you don't care two hoots about what others say about your car, buy the wrong engine BBSD car.
It depends if you are looking at it as an investment you want to do well on, or you are buying a toy you want to enjoy. I have seen many guys with beautiful cars who truly did not enjoy them. I never forget talking to a guy at a POCI meet years ago. He had a gorgeous 64 tripower stick Goat rag. $40,000 restoration, and this was in 1994, so what would that cost today? I asked him if it was a blast to drive. His reply? Never driven it since it was restored X number of years ago, just in and out of the enclosed trailer he hauled it in, that was it.
He was ticked off after the show when he didn't win his class........
Now this may describe some of you guys, I don't know. I hope not. To me, that is not fun, that is not enjoying a car.

Yes we can argue both sides of the storey-I located a 26,000 mile super original 70 LS6 Chevelle for a previous friend back in 1996-he sold it a couple years later even though it had been his life long dream-said it was no fun.
I sold my NCRS Top Flight 65 Corvette coupe because it was too good to have around with kids growing up and too valuable.
All the time I had your friend's 67 SD I wanted to do a frame off to make it as god as possibly-yet now it would be a great car for me to have and was probably amongst the most fun cars I had.
No arguing that a SS, SD, or big block desirable car is the one to have-but when a guy who has a basket 57 chev convertible mocking the guy with the cherry 4-door sedan it can be confusing !
Just pay up for the best car !! get in it an drive ! no trailer ! buy the biggest motor you can get ,that the top go's down . Down the road your money should be safe
