when Dad and I bought the red one in 83, three days later was offered 9, Dad drove it to work to show the boys, he was offered 12. the lady whom we bought the car from used to be followed home and threatened , the car would be stolen.
I have had over 50 hobby cars, and have NEVER been offered 5 cents for any of them In most cases I had to give them away. I guess no one likes my stuff.. I pleaded with a guy to buy my 69 Z28 for 8500.00 in 1985 He sold it a week later for 12,500... and on and on
I was offered R100,000 (divide/8 for $C) for the 65 Malibu and refused it. The car has more than money value to it! There is a motor museum not far from me in Heidelburg and will most likely go there for posterity.

i'll give you 5 cents for the ratochief....just let me know what the delivery charge is.
I have had many guys chase me down to buy some of my cheaper cars and when I finally give them a price they try to talk it down. I won't sell a car for less than what it is worth in parts. It's too hard to find 65 Beaumont parts as it is. Then there mad because I won't sell it. Now I know why my neighbour has parked every car he's owned in a field and won't sell a thing.
I would say the ratio of good, honest enthusiasts prepared to pay a reasonable price for what a car is worth vs. cheapskate morons who just put down your car without really knowing anything about it is about 20% to 80%, at least that has been my experience....

I'd say that has gone to 90%-10% in the last few years. Selling a car online is especially aggravating due to internet morons. Got a computer, but no money or integrity. When I have gone to buy a car that's listed online I hear it from all the sellers. "Gee your the first guy who showed up" or the first to offer to pay cash without lowballing and no scam involved.

You are probably right, it has been a while since I sold a car to the "public". The last one I sold was a couple of years ago but that was to a colleague at work. With the economy being the way it is, it is probably only going to get worse...

It's true that a car is only worth what the market will bare. I bought my rag years ago and I think it's worth probably what I paid back then because the market for high buck cars is shrinking fast. Lucky for me I only buy my Beaumonts to keep. I only let one go to get another. I go by a 1 to 1 method. If mine is worth 1 dollar because of the economy then how can yours be worth 2? We all go down in price as a whole. Hopefully the hobby will survive but I keep saving as many as I can. One day when I'm gone it's going to be a great garage sale!!!
when I bought my blue car, I had a choice, the blue car or a 65SD conv. with V8, red with black top and int. console auto car, dont know if it was a 327 or 283 car. Both were the same price $1,000. The conv. was all orig.too, it was partialy appart, you put back together.
I wish you could time warp me to that time because I would of taken both!!
only wanted the blue 1, as it was the car that i almost smashed into and he into me staring at each others cars. i had photographed the car @83 12-13yrs prior to buying it @95-96, still in pretty much same shape, minus the huge trailer mirrors on the fender, lol, now have had her 12-13yrs, just started it couple weeks ago for the first time in a long time.still havent driven it
The first week I had my wagon a guy offered me 5 for it . I told him its not for sale he said every one has there price I told him give me 20. He asked if I was crazy I said no are you I said it not for sale but if you dumb enough to give me 20 its sold.
