Found this morning---66 build tag, my 4 speed Grande Parisienne


Looking for something today and I found this. I thought I had it but it's been missing for years.

This is the tag out of the seat of my 66 Grande Parisienne 396, 4 speed, transistor ignition, power antenna, tinted glass.

Andrew, I saw that too. Had never noticed it before. I would like to see another 66 Grande Parisienne sheet. They had the steering wheel that is half black, half woodgrain. A lot of steering wheel options start with "N". The car is an M20 though, so who knows?

Also, K05 twice? Wonder if it had dual block heaters when it was new? I put dual heaters in it later when I put in the 427, but not sure it had originally.

Don't see many sheets with K66 on them...

It's a very rare factory electronic ignition. I've seen one other on a Canadian car...

And I would think P78 is likely the spinner wheel covers even though they are standard on the Grande Parisienne.

          We had a 66 Impala SS 427-425 here in 67-68-69  It had it...   He used to drive by my house 30-40 times a day, and my TV would go crazy, when he went by..

Here is a genuine numbers matching 66 SS convert 427/425 4 speed passing through Morris on the way to it's new Alberta home a few years ago. This car also has it. A friend of mine owns it. He says there were 66 big block B body cars made in the US with transistor ignition in 1966. That would make a Canadian one ultra rare at that rate. If you remember an article in Car Review likely about 15 years ago, this car was in there then. Seems to me the header said "Big Kahuna" or something like that. My friend bought it a few years after that. The owner had passed away.

 P78 is the tires it came with, I can't find it in my 67 options list? But it would tell you whitewall or blackwall, nylon, 8.25 etc.

Andrew, you likely know this better than me but weren't all big block and/or wagon B body cars 8.25 tires on a 14 X 6 rim?

In 66, wagons carried 8.55-14 on the 14 by 6 deep rim - the same rim that was stock on all 68 & 69 full size Pontiacs. I think you're right that 8.25-14 was the base big block tire in non-wagons. 14 by 6 rim may have been optional though. My 65 Parisienne convt had the 6 inch wide rim with 8.25-14 tire, and it was a 283.

Interesting, I don't know that I recall wrecking any small block cars with 6" rims. Part of that could be that I parted out many cars before I knew there was a different rim option on those cars.

I do recall that when my 67 396 Grande Parisienne wagon got hit and pushed into the curb, I had a tough time finding a replacement stock 6" rim.

 Yes all wagons received the 14 by 6 JK rims. The base rim no matter what engine or suspension was the 14 by 5 J rims with the 8.25 tire except wagons. The  6" rims used the 8.55 tires. Any car that left the factory with 6" rims had the 8.55 tires( or 8.45,8.15 with disc brakes. Specific RPO's for these tire sizes). In 67 the 14 by 6" rims were available as RPO P12 on all cars except the wagons of course. But in some chevrolet documents regarding the RPO F41 they state that the 14 by 6" JK rims came standard with this suspension package which is not true. My car and several others (all F41 cars) that I have copies of the GM of canada docs for show they all came with the 14 by 5 J rims with a 8.25 tire.

Once again, we can't believe everything we read. Amazing! You'd think the manufacturer would get it right. I wish I would have kept track better on what had what when I was parting all those B bodies years ago.

 The guy I bought my Biscayne from north of Edmonton had(has) a 66 Impala SS convert L72 M21 car. 1 of 8 made in Canada from what his GM docs said. He found it in a wrecking yard in Yellowknife if I remember correctly, the car was hit in the front end pretty good. But the original motor was in the trunk, rough but rebuild able. The last time I talked to him about 2 years ago he was beginning the restore on it. This is the place where the 70 2+2 convert was sitting with its original 454 still in it. I remember looking at it. I think he sold the motor out of it now though???

I have a copy of the monthly shipping sheet from a GM Documented 67 L36 Impala SS(sold at Inman's) and was suprised to see how many "plain jane" biscayne and belair 4DR cars recieved the F40 suspension package. Ya never know.

You're dead on about F40 in Canadian cars. In an earlier post I mentioned how many full size Canadian Chevys & Pontiacs on which I have seen the large F40 front sway bar (sedans mostly). These were in many cases 6 cyls or base V8s, especially from 67-70. Wish I'd pulled the springs too.

Re. F41: I once saw a 66 Parisienne Custom Sport, factory 283 4 speed with the F41 sway bars front and rear. Prior to seeing that I was under the impression that in 66 the F41 came on big block cars only, such as the 66 396 Caprice I once looked at buying.

    When I was young, I used to change a "lot" of tires and wheels.(WORKED IN A TIRE SHOP )  I always remembered the wide "looking " wagon rims..  A fellow in town, with a straight axle ChevyII, ran them..   I do remember that the tires came off with the rim mounted upside down on changer... I would have guessed the wagon rims were reversed but not wider ...  but I do remember spending 3 hours, one Sat afternoon, putting a set of  205-14  not 205/75's on a 69 Gran Prix  It had 7 inch rims  8" edge to edge     I have a photo of me that day
