Players chalange Firebird

Co worker bought an 87 Firebird players chalange race car. It has the Canadian doc . He said there were fewer Firebirds made compare to the Camaros. It was interesting to me as I was at the first Molson indy and remember seeing the cars race. They seem to be real slow after watching the Indy cars. He has a good solid car to work with and hopes to find parts to put it back to is former racing days.

When I sold cars in Goderich (Chrysler) 83-90  I had a fellow who wrenched on a Camaro    He brought it over one day, and let me take it for a drive..  Wow..5.0 l if I remember ..    It said something like Kings or King city on the side  ......

As I recall the 5 litres were specially made in St. Catherines and hand picked for each car. The engines were sealed somehow to ensure equal competition.

Not the first Chevy racing 5 L that ran like stink, those Trans Am Z/28's were 302's or 5 L!

Brings back memories. Around '88 I started racing with a Firehawk team that had a few Players Challenges cars.

CLICK HERE , there is a web site dedicated to these cars and series. Provides production numbers. specs and RPO codes. Really good info!

These things were powered by the L69, used in Monte Carlo SS and HO Camaro's and Firebirds. This was a damn fine powerplant, one of Hot Rod Magazines top ten Chevy performance engines of all time, so it should be no surprise the cars went like stink.

I've been tempted a few times to buy one of them. But no A/C, and no 5.7 keeps me from pulling the trigger.

A man of your talents, if you got one with an L69 that would be a good starting point and I think the windows roll down wink

Thanks Ray, but I'm too old & lazy to not have A/C, and the regular 5.7 IROC's and GTA's with  a full load are really cheap right now . I could handl;e the crank windows, but really wouldn't you rather have power windows( unless your racing)?
