Another 64 Beaumont SD

Have enjoyed the site for the last couple months but with time restraints and such haven't got around to doing this.  When I saw another 64 on the other day it motivated me so here goes.  Bought the car in 2004.  The car had been taken to a body shop around 2000 and they had a good start on a frame off restoration.  The guy ran out of funds so the body shop sold it to the guy I bought it from to recover his costs.  Long story.  Meanwhile in that time the car had been moved to different locations and consequently pieces seemed to get lost.  So I come along and take it the next step.

The only way to find out what you're missing is to start putting things back together.  I can usually do okay if I take it apart but my manuel became a close friend.  I was also fortunate to find a great guy just a couple minutes away who had a 64 sedan so it was handy for seeing what was missing.

They had completed everything on the frame; brakes, shocks, front end, etc, and the frame was painted.  Basically all the metal work had been done as far as the body and floors.  So I got the original 194 six powertrain and lots of boxes, some marked, some not marked, some with my parts, and some with other gm parts.  So after locating a couple missing body parts I took to my friend's body shop and got it painted.  After that the fun began.

I thought alot about my powertrain situation, whether to go crate engine or not but decided to stay with the original.  In my case I thought my hot rodding days are over.  I just want to cruise now and enjoy the scenery.  Hoping to do the Oregon coast and into California this summer.  I tried to build it as nice as I could but we're going to put the miles on her.

Sourcing parts was definetly the most interesting time.  Talked with alot of interesting and great people.  It took me a couple months to find good hood chrome piece out of Alberta and then about 2 weeks later I ran into a guy here in Kelowna who I had bought stuff from 30 years ago; asked him if he had any beaumont stuff kicking around.  Turned out he had a whole parts car then and a whole front end and he lives 5 minutes from my place.  So at least I got myself a couple extra parts from him.  Also located 2 beaumont spinner hubcaps from 2 different guys in Texas.  Go figure how stuff gets so scattered.  They were all confused because the spinners were solid and didn't say PMD on them.  Thank you, I know they're no good for you.  Got an NOS beaumont script from a lady in the eastern states, she only knew it must be for some type of car. Thank you.  The stories go on and on but it's all good stuff.  Great education at the same time.

So have had just a great time, the odd frustrating time, but as we all know these are unique cars.  I don't know how many times I heard it said you know they only did that for the one year.  GREAT.   My wife is just blown away how many times people make comments or ask her what year it is?  It's just an old car.  Anyhow sorry it got so long and drawn out but once I got going it just happened.  Will may be try get a few pictures on of the process.  Computer seems to be running a little hot!   Thanks  Jerel

Yes, welcome here Jerel.

I was the fortunate recipient of Jerel's generosity a few weeks back when he answered a wanted ad of mine here and sold me some spare emblems he had leftover from his project. Because he was willing to share some of his spare parts he talks about, another car now will get the emblems it was missing.

Thanks Jerel!!!

Found a few pictures. Brings back some good memories.  Avatar picture is by Okanagan Lake beginning of December before she got put away and the snow began to fly.  Thanks for the welcome and kind words. Hopefully will get a little more familiar with things here and can get more involved. Thanks
