Big Ray on the Red Carpet - GRAN TORINO wide release

When I saw GRAN TORINO last week it was a big deal, first weekend in wide release. It was crazy at the theatre. When I showed up they asked me to say a few words on my way in. I never met a microphone I didn't like!

No valet, the theatre is right across the street from a cousin's restaurant so I just used one of his reserved spots.

Emerald Grill Hillar, on Queen, its been in the family for close to over 40 years. We called the kids and we all met at Hollinger's for dinner...they lost their Liquor License...only were able to serve wine. Not a big deal for us but the place was dead.

Hollinger's lost their liquor license?  When/how did that happen?  I don't understand how they can still serve wine then, the last time I looked wine=alcohol.  In any event, they won't last long then. Unless you are a top end restaurant, margins on food are razor thin, you make all your profit on the booze.

They were pretty vague on how it happend but I asked the same thing. They said wine is on a different license. Since we sold Mary's family restuarant I am not up on these things any more so I have no idea. confuse.gif
A lot of people were coming in then leaving once they heard.

Hmmm, funny because at The Pilot we have one license that covers everything.  Did you  notice if they had anything posted in the window?  Usually the LCBO requires a notice to be posted in the front window advising the public of any violation.

No notice but everyone who came in was immediately told. In probing I think it was as simple as someone not renewing the license or having a cheque bounce to cover the annual fee. Very poor management in any case.

With our family place on the Danforth, liquor was the life blood as you said, Our place was the watering hole of choice for all the Hogan Pontiac Buick guys, Riverdale Lincoln Mercury guys and Robertson Chev olds guys, combine that with a satellite Leaf game and life was good!

Can you image what our place is worth today, Pape & Danforth location!

How could you ever give up a place that was a dealership hang-out?

I wonder if Pontiac being reduced to a "niche brand" will cause any of the GTA Pontiac Buick dealerships to close up shop?

Good point, but are most not Pontiac, Buick, GMC and Cadillac.

Seems to me they need to balance out the Chevy dealers product lines.
