I couldn't do that to him even if he has more cars than he will ever have time or money to fix. But seriously you guys have never seen a 396 in a 65? I wonder if the famous George Z would know the answer as to when they stopped making the 409 in Canada. Also you guys don't know a similar Canadian Chevy (Ptoo!) forum where they might have discussed this do you?

There was / is a "396" 65 Pontiac in Moose Jaw! info to follow
Just kidding about the Chevy (Ptoo) stuff. I own a few myself. Its like the difference between Dog River and Woolerton. Really there ain't much except for a little more style in Dog/Pontiac River.
I saw the 65 396 post. I'd be interested in following it up if you want as it's right next door. Sound as if phoning the contact number might get you to the present owner at least. I wish I'd seen it before it was sold!
If it is a true 396 car and a guy could get the VIN we could run it through George to see when it was built and narrow down the transition date. Pretty exciting stuff!
Guys I'm late to this post and I'm not sure what car you are referring to, so correct me if I'm wrong. The only 65 Pontiac I can see advertised on the link is a maroon 4 door ht listed as a 396 Parisienne, sold in 2007. If it is this car, I don't believe it is a Canadian Parisienne. This car looks like a US Bonneville due to the overlapping wipers, the script on the hood and the extra long wheelbase. If it is a Bonnie, the motor is more likely a 389. I could be wrong but if this is the car referred to, that's what it looks like to me.
There is a blue car too, open that link and scroll down to find it $1,908. BUT the roof line on the blue one is puzzling me too. I agree with you on the maroon one, looks like a big US car.
Howdy guys, I phoned the guy who sold it today. He didn't have much time to talk as he was out of town but he said if I phoned him back in a week he'd put me in touch with the owner. He remembers that the car had decals on the valve covers that said 396/325 horsepower so it doesn't sound like an american car. He said it loked original but he didn't pay that much attention to it. So I'll phone him back in a week and we'll pursue it.
As for the picture my eyes are poor so i couldn't see much to discern but you guys have more experience than me. I wil report what I find out on the 396 65 Pontiac thread.

OK, I missed that one. I'll try it again. It would be great to establish a real 65 396 car.
OK, now I see it. That's defintely a big block in the blue car and it all looks original. If the GM Canada docs could be seen for that it would be possible to verify a 396 car. If real that was a steal for the money, and no doubt pretty rare.

It's a big block and it does say 396 on the air cleaner..........The other crazy thing is, if that maroon one is a Parisienne and it had a 396 too.....
Howdy guys. I finally was able to open the link to the engine bay on the blue 65. The emission system does not look the same as on my original early production 66 396. (I don't have the tube to the aircleaner.)
It looks a but more like 68 however the decal looks like mine does.

I guess we'll talk to the guy in a week or so.
I was thinking the same thing, I thought it looked like a 69.......so we are on the same page.
Yeah although the alternator placement is the same as mine and the mine had the weird valve in the intake so it's kind of a mix of same and not the same.
Opposite rad hose configuration and different alt. brackets?. Also is that an EGR?.
Being the '65 Chev engine has chrome valve covers, is that shot possibly of a '65 only L78 396/425...or is it the L35 396/325 like the Pontiac could've have?.
Any chance there's info on the Cowl tags of either of the Ponchos?.
