Did you watch InFocus Tues. night on HDNet? Classic American cars of Cuba?
Like all of us, I knew about all the old 50's cars they had down there, and thought they all were kind of held together with shoestrings, man, I was wrong. There are some really nice examples rolling down there besides the real beaters. Perhaps not to the concours level of up here, but still pretty nice in a quaint sort of way. The cars down there are family hierlooms, and a entire industry has formed around them, keeping them running and celebrating them. The show follows a town to town cruise with what appears to be at least 30 cars. In one shot of a back alley garage, a fellow is making some new stainless trim, he's working on a piece of cardboard on a bench, and it has a Canada flag on it! I suspect some "emergency" parts might just be finding their way down these days. One shot has a family "restoring" a 57 or so Plymouth or Dodge, it's original engine long gone and being replaced with a 4cyl tow motor engine, probably Russian, lol! I wonder if there are any CP's rolling in Havana? Is so, we need a Cuban connection!
Cheers.
