CDN Pontiacs - when rebuilding

How hard is it to find parts for the 1950-through-mid-1970 cars?

I'm trying to learn if people have found certain of those years and body-styles hard to obtain quality parts for.

I know it's hard to generalize across all those years, and various models, but please offer whatever cautions you care to.

Quarters?
Fenders?
Glass?
Emblems?
Interior trim?
Other?

Thanks.

I found with my 57 wagon and 66 Acadian it is not that hard to find parts with the Internet it takes some time a lot of emails and money depending on the parts you need. I had been told I would never find tail light housing or rear bumper caps for my wagon. But i did it took 2 years but I found nos of both .

I assume(???) that no one is manufacturing repro parts for "Canadian" Pontiacs, correct? This assumption is based on the small size of the market, compared to the American cars.

The 55-57 Pontiacs are relatively easy to get mechanical, weatherstrip, rubbers and glass parts as they are the same as their Chevy sister. The hard to find stuff is the chrome trim, lenses, bumpers and especially good back up light housings. You can also use complete Chevy interior kits as well, as some models are even identical trim numbers. They will all interchange just different material and patterns. Lots of the Americian exterior chrome trim is the same but not all.

It's probably easier right now than it has been for years. Thanks to websites like this and cars coming to market that have been dormant for years.

ive found its easy enough for the chassis parts but almost impossible for the trim parts for my car. Im on another website called pontiac-59 which is all 59 owners (about 20 of us) and its even hard for the american ones as well. I would imagine the same for 58 as well.

66 Acadian tailite and backup lenses, clear park lamp lenses,V8 emblem, Canso script
65 Beaumont V8 emblem
68? SD emblem

Thanks everyone. I take it, therefore, that a prime consideration in looking at an old Canadian Pontiac is the condition of the quarters and fenders as likely no one is reproducing them.

I imagine floors and rockers from a similar year Chevy will work, but Chevy and US Pontiac quarters and fenders are out.

So, the better the body, the sooner the drivin'. wink

At least for my 54 its hard for the floor braces..floor pans sheet metal and most trim is not bad some odd Canadian stuff like hubcaps..and for mine the front fender stainless trim..But I have seen some of it out there. So its about time and money to get the right part.
