Barrett-Jackson 2009 visit

Here are some thoughts on my visit to Scottsdale.

First time attendee at the BJ auction.
I arrived on Tuesday and was there until late Saturday night.
The weather was hard to take, only 47 F in the mornings and then 75 F in the afternoons.
The car rental company gave away my Cadillac and made me pick between an Excursion and a red convertible.

I had to spend way too much time trying to sell our BBQ's and hang around with the hired help.

Only tried to buy 2 cars Lot 713 63 GP 421 4speed and
Lot 710.1 62 Belair 409 4speed. I was the underbidder on each.

The event is a worthwhile destination for any car guy. Lots of great cars you won't see anywhere else. The BJ people were great to deal with. Watching the auction live is different from TV.

I plan to go again.

Rick

We would have been happier with the CTS.
Many instances when you guys would have laughed your heads off.
1. If you had seen us trying to get 2 suitcases into the trunk.
2. Watching 2 old fat guys climbing in and out of the car.
3. Watching the car lurch around while I tried to beat the     traction control system.
4. Listening to my business partner screaming while I did donuts on a public street Saturday morning (.89 G's according to the heads -up display) after I learned that the traction control could be turned off.

Just returned from B.J. and other auctions in Phoenix. 6000 plus km. added to wife's odometer but an enjoyable drive. We stopped Frisco for one day and met our youngest daughter , son-in-law and two grandkids in Disneyland for 4 days on the way down. The best auction for us blue collar guys is Russo Steele. Check out their web site, 75% muscle and or 50s ,60s, and early 70s cars all sold with reserves to protect vendors from softening market. Another one we attend is R.M. auction at The Biltmore in Scotsdale. First class vehicles [100] sold on one day by Rob Myers group from Ontario. Not to be missed is the weekly [12 months ] cruise on saturday night the at the Pavillion Shopping mall in Scottsdale. 300 to 500 cars show up, some in trailers, and many are for sale without the pressures of an auctioneer. Many are projects, but one Mustang there is currently for sale in the Dupont Registry for $112,000
