Sent all the best of my underhood fasteners out to be plated. Got them back today. Nice job. The shop was Ardeven Platers at 11 Carson St in Etobikoke. Great shop, A fellow named Rob even took me in the back to see the process which was a nice surprise considering the reputation of these places. Every bolt must be copper wired onto a rack, so it's a bit of work to do large amounts of small fasteners. I could have replaced all these fasteners with new, but they definately would not have had the correct markings, and would only have been black oxide finished. I Chose yellow zinc, I know they mostly only came with silver Zinc but I've always liked the Dichromated look anyway. Couldn't resist bolting somthing up with them. So now I can say I've done somthing on the car this year, lol!

You can still get the gold look in a zinc plating Carl. It's first plated in silver zinc, then washed in a chromic acid solution to give it the gold colour, hence the name (zinc dichromate). Originally, I belive the original gold colour was achieved through plating with the highly toxic metal Cadmium (Cad plating).

I thought someone told me we couldn't get the gold colored plating anymore? Something to do with the materials in that colour and the environment?
You can still get yellow I helped my buddy plate 4000 feet of yellow chain last Saturday. So if you need any done Carl let me know. They do yellow and silver zinc plating, powder coating and hope to get there chrome line going this summer

I like it when a car has nice clean bolts and nuts on re-assembly. Shocked my friends when I cut off the old rusted bolt and nuts with an angle=grinder! Much quicker!!!
