Ian, sorry I don't understand ?

no e-test, car has an exhaust leak can't check it.

does not have a fit ownership-says unfit so I don't believe you can get a temporary permit look into it.

Ken, i'm not sure what you mean by a "fit ownership" that it says unfit - is that because of the e-test? I can't say i've heard of a "fit or unfit ownership" before.

and second does that have anything to do with my putting temporary plates with insurance coverage on it, to get it home?

every Ontario ownership has a status 'fit' or 'unfit' fit meaning plated, unfit meaning it needs a certification to be plated- might say 'plated' or 'unplated' right beside 'brand' above your driver's license number (R.I.N.)-they recently changed the laws with a temporary permits-they actually give you a license plate now with a 'T' where the sticker would go-this may now also be for the transport of a non fit vehicle. This car carries a 'non fit' typed 'unplated' ownership because it was bought 'as is' not certified transfered to my Father's name through a dealership

I  am sure Ken knows what to tell you but I just went through this because I gave one of my car's to a close friend to use.

You need a Temporary Vehicle Registration. This allows vehicles to be driven to licensing offices, garages (eg. to satisfy Safety Standards Certificate and/or Drive Clean requirements) and for other necessary short-term transportation purposes. Temporary Vehicle Registration is a "T" validation sticker that goes on the upper right hand corner of your licence plate and will only be valid for ten days starting with the date issue. A vehicle that has been sold must be registered in the new owner's name, prior to Temporary Vehicle Registration being issued for the vehicle. You also need proof of insurance. An Unfit ownership means the car has not passed a Safety Standards Certificate process, commonly known as sold "as is."

Yes, thats what I read too-it sort of implies that we can now get a temporary permit for an unfit vehicle, prior to this we could not, best to clarify. If I'm near the local MTO I'll stop and ask.

aah! I knew about plated and unplated and about branded cars, just never heard the words fit or unfit. Guess thats what happens when you live in all kinds of different provinces.
So it is next to impossible to get a temp. permit from where i am before going to welland, i'd have to do it there, that day. that shold be possible right?
can i do without certification/safety and simply put my plate on it to drive it home or is that illegal? with insurance of course.
still trying to figure out how to get this donw in the brief time frame i have. being prepared should get the job done easier.

Unfit is a pretty harsh term, sort of implies a car with no brakes or something dangerous like that.  In my case I wrote up a lease for $1 so I still own the car BUT it needed an e-test. So the T permit allowed the car to be moved around for 10 days even though it was "not legal". We only needed the T for a few hours to do the test and then transfer plates to the new user. I'm pretty sure they will provide the T for an unfit ownership transfer.

Do You use a dealer plate to move it around Ken ? If so the T plate is really not that much different.

Speelman, this all has to be done in Welland because you need the ownership. Bring your own plates.

A dealer tag got it to my place, A friend with a lot usually lends his tag if I need to get stuff someplace, shh I just threw some outdated white plates on it this morning and brought it over for the e-test which was a waste of time-they said they couldn't check it due to and exhaust leak-maybe it does, probably best for me to run it for safety inspect now before I fix any exhaust leak-like you said these 3.8's usually fly through e-test anyway.

yes, I'll send you the vin to get insurance then you can bring that slip to the MTO here to get a 'T' plate

I'll try to ask at the MTO about the unplated 'T' plate issue before you come.

I was at the local MTO office today-thet stated yes you can put a temporary 'T' plate on a 'unplated' ownership vehicle, you need proof of insurance, you have ten days to certify and e-test after that. Very interesting

RE: 1992 Buick Park Ave Sold !!!

I am very sorry that it was sold when you got here-I sort of expected that you would call from home or even Guelph before you came-I am also sorry that you waited so long before I got home from getting the boys at school-I hope the gas money I gave you will somewhat compensate-and I hope it wasn't a wasted trip seeing you were able to see the 55 Pontiac-Not sure if you got in touch with Terry about the 97 Olds Achevia but I'm pretty sure that car is equally as good value at $700.

Yes, again I am sorry-I continued to list it for sale and had several people look at it since the time you showed interest and would have sold it to anyone that wanted it-I really should have sent it in for safety inspection a week ago monday to try to get more dollars for it but was holding off for the potential sale as is with no effort that wednesday and put it off until this week, I assumed you were going to "look" at it because you were questioning the frame etc... I didn't here from you and the only way to contact you was through this web site which I posted sold-this was quite a disappointing sale not only did I let you down but I gave the buyer $100 off for the oil pan that started "leaking" after he jacked it up to check the exhaust at his house, then I allowed $40 fuel for your trouble and the guy somehow was asking for half of the $160 for the oil pan he installed ($80 yet I gave him $100) when you were here, needless to say my Dad net $660 for this car.

Not sure if you seen anything worthwhile at the car lot, if there was I can try to help you out with a bottom dollar price, if you may have interest in my Roadmaster I could offer a better deal to try to make up for your trip/time, if I see anything else around I'll let you know-we are not getting many trade ins due to nothing selling, We might get a 2000 century today 170km coming in on trade but it has some body damage in the front.

Sorry again, hope the look at the 55 pontiac was beneficial

Ken

Thanks Sieman I really feel bad-if you want a great price on the Roadmaster I'll do something, the Achevia at the lot is a decent car for the money, the 200 century with the damaged bumper and fender is likely coming in.
