from what I've seen in most of the old beaumonts.. none were painted the body color on the under side, but was given a primer.. then through the paint line they painted the firewall and painted as far as the paint gun would reach.. so it fades out from the firewall to the under side..
My two cents.. plus I want to justify the way I just restored mine.. LOL..
the L79 looks really really great Bill.. cant wait to see the rest.

first time Ive ever seen a black under carrage, all the Canadian GMs Ive ever owned, all were painted body color on the bottom, never a black bottom, 23,000mile Nova, painted, both my 65s untouched are painted, the 64 Chevelle ss painted, the 66 Impalas painted, 67 Chevelle waqgon painted, all not just light paint, all the body primer Ive seen for those years are the oxide red
My oshawa built 66 chevelle had the painted underside, and firewall matching the car,as does my Canso .Some were, some were'nt.Wonder if mabe their was a year where this changed? Dont want to start a big debate here, but Anyone know?

a few more, i'll keep the photos coming . the car should be done in the spring. i plan on having it in Dayton at the P.O.C.I National event. Chevrolet across the country is down ,but no more then any of the manufacturers including Toyota. Our sales are actually steady compared to last year and with any push here at the end this could be the best January in the 74 year history of the dealership. As the GM of the worlds largest volume chevrolet car dealer I just take the approach that I don't care about all the things I can't control and choose to focus on the things that I can . We will do whaterver it takes to get through this , we don't have a choice. (Sorry to ramble on I was just answering a question)
Im still sceptical, with all the Canadian GM 60s cars Ive ever owned, or have ever seen, everyone Ive ever seen has a painted bottm, as for orig. Beaumonts go, 1 of my 65 Beaus, still has its orig. brake shoes, like the rest of my GMs it too has never been touched. only exception is my red 65, it has 1 repaint prior to us buying it, and I swapped out the firewall, and installed an A/C firewall, undercarrage is still untouched factory red.
65 Beau , I understand what you are saying, the only thing I can tell you is the underneath of the car had never been touched and we took it down to metal and there was never color . I would have liked it if there was because i think it looks better. I have restored two Beaumonts, body off nut and bolt type restos, and both had painted bottoms. This one was originally black. Another one of the signs that lots of cars built in that era had small changes from one another.
Hi Bill, like I said in my first post, Im not critising your car, just curious. your doin a really nice job, in my opion, I dont say that too often, only other time Ive was quoted for saying nice body work, was to Kelico when he showed photos of his rear quarter being replaced correctly. Can I ask, if you were going to put a little overspray onto the Muncie, Eng. mounts and manifolds ?

I have a friend, down the street, who "has" had a 67 Chevy II since '69.. Hard Top, 327-275, 4 speed Saginaw, 12 bolt, single exhaust, and is black underneath, and has been since new!!
Do you find that once any component is detailed to this level, that everything else coming after must meet the same quality? Do you ever find yourself second guessing yourself on stuff that you've already done, lol!
Cheers, Mark
