Well, that "full throttle" I posted above backfired and died!
I never turned a bolt all week. It was one thing after another. Today was going to be a special day, everyone gone all day and I had the place to myself. Well, we know about how the best made plans go..........
I got an early start. One of the things not too far in to the agenda was installing the flywheel and clutch before I dropped the engine in. Couldn't find my bag that I knew had the special bolts for both. No worries, I have another set. And of course, my extra set has only 5 flywheel bolts in it! No point in running to my workplace because by the time I get back I have to make my lunch so I can head off to a funeral. That was the next fly in the ointment. I have many, many very special customers at work who I really appreciate dealing with. One of them lost his father in law a few days ago. He called me pretty shook up, so I knew I had to be there. Come home from that with a headache so that puts me down for a while. At least I picked up a flywheel bolt at work on the way home from the funeral. And guess what bag I find once I have the flywheel and clutch installed??? Yup, my bag of bolts......
Anyhow, back at it mid evening and made it this far at least. Not much but it's a start.

For now I am going to put on the stock 65 valve covers with the original Acadian 327 decals. I may eventually do a chrome set like the L79. Yes, the covers on there now only are there to keep the dirt out!

Thanks Dave. I agree, it's pretty old school but I love the L79 cams. The new ones sound nastier but the 60's cams just make that very unique idle. The gallop is gone in most of the new ones.

The manifolds are coated with POR15 manifold treatment. I've never used it before but I've read good things about it, so we shall see...
It should make decent power but there would be a lot more to be had with headers on it. I am still thinking I may go with headers eventually. I likely could have done much better for cams too but I wanted the old school look and sound. I'm sure the 69 Z28 intake could be improved on too, but chose it for the same reason, the look.

Chad, do you mean the Speed Pro cam like I'm using?
If so, it is a cam that would work okay with an auto as long as it had a little bit of gear I would say. I've had a few of these over the years. I ran one in a 327 in a 66 Grande Parisienne Turbo 400 years ago. It had 2.73 gears so it was pretty lame for a launch but by 2500 rpm it worked well. Also, that car was over 4,000 pounds. All power options and a/c too.

And the icing on the cake? Guess what I find last night when I'm in the shed plugging in the car? Yup, a fourth set of flywheel bolts I never knew I had....
Murphy must have a twin brother...

They're all coming back from the parallel universe Carl. :) You have a double in that universe. He uses your stuff and returns it just after you've bought other stuff!
Late start tonight but I got the shifter and linkage installed and adjusted, trans filled with oil, reverse light switch and bracket installed on the trans, made my little rod for the light switch (mock up is done, have to build it now) and that's about it.
I hang the 4 speed and bellhousing on the engine stand to work on it. Way nicer than a work bench, or worse yet, under the car!

Carl, if you decide to go for headers via Edmonton, that offer still stands. (Otherwise, I'll probably use the credit for something come spring time once I get the car out of storage.)

Thanks Geoff. I am still thinking of doing it. So far I will be putting on the manifolds but I suspect I may change to headers. Don't hold back on my part but it's certainly possible I will take you up on that offer if the credit is still there in the spring. It still depends how this whole swap goes.

Finally a garage evening in spite of less than ideal health!
Installed the bellhousing, Muncie, crossmember, clutch linkage and fork pull back spring, wired up the backup lights on the Muncie.
I had to make the fork pushrod since Acadians use a unique piece, which of course I didn't have even though I thought I did! Also, the trans did not want to line up on the crossmember for some reason. The holes in the mount wanted to sit about 1/2" to the left of the holes in the crossmember so that took a while to get in place. Not sure why.
Got the clutch adjusted with about 1" freeplay which feels about perfect.
Sorry, no pictures. I'm beat!

Hi Carl Good to see your getting your 327 together ! got a question i have these valve covers off my 66 canso and always thought they were the originals for the acadians? ( oh and if you go to header can i have my manifolds back they look really good now j/k ;)
Yes, those should be the original valve covers. Somewhere on here I've seen pictures of the special "Acadian" decals too. Same thing you will see on my 65 once I get the underside done and move to the top of the engine.
Nice looking manifolds, eh? Sandblasted then POR15 exhaust manifold coating. We'll see if it holds up once it's been run a bit. If they hold up well and I do go to headers, they are going to end up on my 67 Nova SS 327. That car will certainly not be getting headers. It is a very good original car to restore. It would be a shame to make it a hot rod. My Acadian is a 6 cyl car so I won't feel too guilty if it gets headers.
Hey, I assume that is your engine in your signature? What kind of headers are those?

Thanks Elroy, my age is showing! I also love the look of those covers and heads.
Minor progress tonight. Between health issues and family time, I find I have to push to get anything done.
Installed the little 1/8" rod from the reverse lever to the backup light switch. One of my pet peeves is 4 speed musclecars with non functioning backup lights!
Measured up so I can order a correct length speedo cable now that the speedo gear is on the passenger side.
Installed the passenger side spark plug wire shields, spark plugs and exhaust manifold. Any of you with 62-67 Acadian or Nova V8 cars know how much fun the right hand side stuff is....
