Not sure if Speed TV is available in Canada, but I just caught the tail end of a show about the Targa in Newfoundland. Whoa, reminds me of my wicked youth, when we would lay out a course over city streets and county roads, give out directions, and whoever got to the finish first (timed, leave at 5 minute intervals) won. No wussy "travel at 30 mph for 1.6 miles" just go as fast as you can! Fun!
On the show, one recent year in Newfoundland a 1967 Acadian Canso Sport Coupe (pictured below) came in 2nd. Sounded GREAT, must have had the 350/350 in it.
Speed TV also had a show on the Super Duty Pontiacs, from 57 3-2's through 63 aluminum-front-end 421 Tempest A/FX cars. Cool!
Yes Dave we get Speed channel on cable in Ontario. That is something I'd love to do, Newfie Targa. Can we get Canadian Poncho to sponsor me? I'll donate a GTA Trans Am to myself. Now if the rest of you will just send your cash donations....... Don't worry, I won't waste a penny on anything worthwhile. 100% of your money will be spent foolishly on stuff like steaks, beer, hi performance parts, admin fee's to my charitable foundation.... Who want's to start?
Yup, we get Speed. Most of us were watching B-J non stop a couple of weeks ago, just to see some shots of nice cars and no snow!
What was the name of that Pontiac Show about the SD's? I will have to search the schedule to see if it will be repeated.
The show was "American Muscle Car" and the description said that it was about Super Duty Pontiacs, the show also included information about and interviews with Jim Wanger, Bunkie Knudsen and various engineers who were instrumental in developing all that great hardware.
Interestingly, it ended with the statement that GM pulled the plug on factory supported racing in 1963, so the wily Pontiac engineers "took it from the track to the streets" and created the legendary 1964 GTO!

This is an amazing event that takes place over the course of several days. Once I'm fully retired, I'd love to build an old B-body Pontiac wagon and show them that a combination of suspension science and good driving can be a winning formula.....even in a '67 Safari. Why a full-size wagon? Just to drive them completely crazy.
This car was featured in Hot Rod magazine a few months back. I posted it here. I saw the car up close in September as it competes every year in the annual Targa Newfoundland rally, which is an International event. Speed has run films on the race. This car is very well built, and the driver always places well. All these pics are from the Targa race.
I'd love to do that. Maybe we should throw a "pro touring" suspension under the Laurentian, throw in the 454 with a 6 speed and put big CP logos on the rear fenders and go racin'!
First couple of years (2002-5) there were a fair number of amateur entries, but the pros dominate the competiton now. Lot's of nice equipt there always though.
I'm parked next to the Z-06 that you saw briefly in that first video.
One of the co-owners of the Z-06....
Maybe she'd like to co-own a Pontiac project.
Count Me IN!! I still have my SCCA license around here somewhere, sold my car (1965 Corvette roadster, fully race-prepped: full cage, dry sump, Corbeau seat, etc., had several diffs and sway bars I swapped out depending if Donnybrook or Road America or Blackhawk, blah blah blah), in fact sold all my Corvettes (67 427/390 roadster with factory air, factory side pipes, factory leather, M-21, etc.: 64 L-88 clone roadster yep OEM aluminum heads, nasty flat tappet cam, side exhaust, M-22, 67 hood and interior, etc.) but I still have all the tools and know-how, wrench or drive, whatever!
I'd love to do that. Maybe we should throw a "pro touring" suspension under the Laurentian, throw in the 454 with a 6 speed and put big CP logos on the rear fenders and go racin'!

To heck with that weenie 454, I'll donate my forged-rotating-assembly aluminum-head roller-cam 496!

Fantastic. When are you moving north so we can get started?
Ummm, this time of year??!!! And since I have seen posts about the snow and cold up there now??!!! I was thinking YOU would move down HERE but keep a P.O. box or something up there so we could be fully legal Canadian entry ... ???
