A former co worker dropped by tonight to see the Laurentian. He's about 20 years old than me and he recounted a 63 Laurentian his aunt and uncle used to own. No big deal except it had a 409! Even more interesting is it was a 4 door with 3 on the tree! It was dark blue and apparently his uncle bought it second hand. The first owner apparently bought the car to tow a trailer. His uncle used to drive the car hard and his aunt would nonchalantly say that they "caught air" a few times! The car was last seen in the late 60's at a used car lot in Toronto. It's likely a toaster now. It would be neat to get a hold of the VIN and check with GM as to how many 4 doors were made in 63 with the 409!
Very interesting. 63 was the first year for the 409 Pontiac, and it may not be too surprising to find the 340 hp motor in sedans and wagons especially if used for towing. I wonder if there were police units too that had the 409. I had a 63 Strato Chief 2 dr sedan - originally a small block automatic - that I was told was an old police car. It did have a few odd items like hold down brackets welded into the trunk, and odd switches and dash attachments that led me to believe this might have been true. Unfortunately I think I forgot to pull the serial number tag before I sent it to the dump.
