Canada had one of the most powerful Navies following World War II, #3 or #4 actually behind USA and Great Britain and we did indeed have an aircraft carrier, HMCS Bonaventure (1957-1962) as pictured with two fighter squardrons of carrier capable F2H-3 Banshees, also pictured. The Banshees were part of the Navy, not Air Force in the same fashion as the US.
I dug a photo of HMCS Magnificant above and HMCS Warrior below both served in WWII and HMCS Bonaventure below.
HMCS BONAVENTURE
Two other carriers served during WWII but were never commissioned in the Canadian Navy although they were completed manned by the RCN, HMS Puncher and HMS Nabob which was listed as lost in action although it did steam back to Scapa Flow under its own power.
Looks like we are in Canadian Military history. South Africa and Canada played a major role in the Korean war and received many citations! The South African No 1 squadron equiped with Sabres received such a citation!
Here is Canadian artilery set to embark for the Boer War - South Africa
The Boer war, both my Grandfathers fought then, This was a war where the Brits lost the war and could only win the battle by interning women and children in concentration camps, letting them die, and burning the farms down! All this because of Gold and Diamond deposits!! This happening al over the world today! I must not be bitter!!!

Wow Johann, your family history is really something!. I remember reading about the Boer War in some of Winston Churchill's books also about it and the failed Jameson raid in a SA book I read once called the Randlords.. Truly terrible how the Boer farmers were treated also the Blacks especially in the early days of the mines also that SA is where the term concentration camp originated.. Although not always pretty, SA has some amazing history and the way things evolved from the early days in Kimberly and JB is quite the story...especially the people involved like Beit, Rhodes, Barnato etc..

Hullo Pete, I know the subject has been high-jacked, My apologies for it! As a final comment; "The Brits invented apartheid then and we made the mistake of giving it a name!!!!"
