People phoning for donations.............

I was at work this morning, answered the call and when I picked it up the dispaly showed an 800 number. Pretty much know what this call will be about once the delay has past and the caller comes on the phone---

Me: "Rosenort Motors"

Him: "Can I speak to (insert ficticious name here!) John?"

Me: "John is not here and he does not want calls soliciting donations at his work number."

Him: (Very rudely) "How do you know I'm asking for money?"

Me: (Politely, so far......) "Because I see the 800 number and I know the type of call"

Him: "That shows how uneducated you are. I'm not calling for money"

Me: "You're right. I am a dropout!" (I am,  I'm short one credit for my Grade 12!)

Him: "Now let me speak to John."  (Hey, wait a minute. I already told him John is not here. Who's the uneducated one here???)

Me: "John is not here and he doesn't want calls here for money. Where are you calling from?"

Him: " blahblah.gif  uneducated  blahblah.gif  blahblah.gif " and then he hangs up on me.

So I call the number on the display and listened to the spiel about how to call a different number Monday to Friday 9-4 and it lists the organization's name.  You bet I'm gonna call on Monday and tell them a couple of things. The caller is rude, dumb and lies to me.  I'm sure my boss will be anxious to donate right away Monday morning.....

Funny thing is, I was polite to him long after he had proven he is a total _______. I never really did tell him how it really was. I could not believe a guy calling for donations could be such a south-end-of-a-northbound-horse.

I thought of it but I was in the mood for some fun.

At home we don't even answer calls that show 000 or 800. Sometimes even the 416 or 905 calls go to the machine. Sorry you guys from that area. One day I did answer and it was a good thing I did because it was a call from an old car guy from 905!!!

Our phone # is still under my wifes maiden name. The phone company wanted to charge me for the name change when we got married. I told them to stick it and it was the best thing I ever did.  So if they don't use our last name.....I tell them they got the wrong # and hang up.

Personally,I just pick up the phone, wait a couple secs, then hang up.
They know their annoying ppl in the first place phoneing them.biggrin

I like the setup of the national do not call list too,Great idea.
Not sure if you guys know this or not,but anyone can pay a small fee,and get the list of phone #'s that are on the d.n.c.list.So It begins all over again.
A great idea our government hard at work for us,glad were in such good hands.

I can't believe someone in the government didn't see the flaw in their plan. When the Do Not Call List was announced I assumed they would have the marketing company submit their list and then the government would delete the numbers that didn't want calls. Selling the Do Not Call List to everyone is borderline incompetence if not down right collusion.

Here is a solution that doesn't require government intervention.
http://www.telezapper.com/

This little devise goes on your phone line. You plug it in just like you plug in any phone. Then when someone phones and you answer the devise emits three short beeps. These beeps are the signal that phone companies use to indicate that a line is out of service. The computer dialers these marketers use then delete the numbers from their list. It takes about three months to eliminate your number from all those who call using auto-dialing computers. It doesnt affect regular phone calls other then the three beeps everyone gets.

Another one that works pretty good is when you tell them to hold while you're going to get the person they ask for even if it's you and you just leave the phone sit there connected for 10 minutes. Always leaves you curious how long they stay on.

for some fun - what you have to do is reverse the call on them. When you realize it's a marketing/sales type caller, you respond something lke this:

phone rings- you answer "hello" (& possibly a second "hello") then, when they respond you start right in with a sales pitch of your own - eg: "I'm calling from _____ and I'd like 15 minutes of your time to answer a few brief questions..... they will likely hang up! devilish.gif
(have a likely intro question ready just in case!)

I do the same thing ... turn the tables on them.
I always use the funeral home spiel ... we are having a special this week on caskets, cremations, funerals, and burials this week ... are you interested?
