After hearing Todd's Waldron exhaust system last fall (that sounded more like a big block than my own big block!) I think I am going to have to upgrade my mufflers this year. I currently have Walker Dynomax Super Turbos #17749. I just wanted to get people's opinions on what mufflers they have used on a big block dual exhaust system (with factory exhaust manifolds) to get a nice powerful low tone but one that isn't too noisey or drones at highway speed. If you have had custom mufflers made, I would be interested in hearing about those too. As always, first consideration will be given to Canadian made products!

Hey I had custom dual exhaust done for my 71 LTD (which is gone now) for 500 bucks which was for 3 inch pipes and 2 Original 40 series Flowmaster mufflers and the car had everything factory. It was on a 351 Windsor small block engine, and it was still LOUD. It would give you a low rumble on idle, but when you revved it, it was loud. The Original 40 series Flowmaster (which I had) and the super 44 model mufflers are pretty loud but they do have quiter ones, you can check on their website to compare how loud you want it. I don't know if that's what you are looking for or what the guys here think on Flowmasters, but I don't mind them. I like the Flowmasters, and I like to hear that V8. If I were to get them for my Buick I would probably get the same ones.
I went with the flowmaster with X pipe. Flowmaster has the whole kit ready to put on. My kit that I have should fit most A bodies. Too bad I couldn't send a little video of how it sounds
Hillar, back in the day I always ran OEM mufflers from GM, I got the mufflers made for the Turbo Corvairs. I don't know if they are still available but were long recognized as being the least backpressure muffler made. Of course you know I prefer quiet to noisy.
I do love those Waldrons mufflers. If it's any consolation, the owner of Waldrons is Canadian!
Does he give any breaks to Canadians?

They are located in Centreville Michigan. They shipped by UPS and to be honest I don't recall the final price. I'd have to dig up the invoice. I had a bunch of money on my Paypal (you can pay by Paypal online) from selling on Ebay so I wasn't too concerned. I think I spent about 600 bucks by the time I was done. Now the dollar was near par at the time too. When I talked to the owner he was pondering the idea of having a distribution center in Canada (his mufflers are actually made here in Ontario!). Call him and see if he has done that.CLICK HERE for their website. Obviously things will be much cheaper if you just want the mufflers. There was nothing available here in Canada and I didn't want a muffler shop doing the work so my choices were slim. In hindsight if I were doing it again I'd cave and buy the mufflers and get a good custom exhaust shop to do the work.

back in the day. i used to run the turbo corvair mufflers now i have the 40 series Flowmaster on my 55 gmc. I ordered them from the local napa while the owner was down at a distibutors show and i got him to bring back 2 sets for me. i think the other set is going on the 2+2
When I got my Strato Chief, it had stock duals, off headers, with stock 15 year old mufflers!! sounded great.. I took it, and had DynaMax Super Turbos and new tail pipes put on.. It is too quiet!!! I bought 327 Ventura with Hedman long tube headers, with 2.5 inch pipes and balance tube, and Flowmasters! What a difference! Chief is going back for FLOWMASTERS and header DUMPS for the track.. SUPER turbos have 100 miles on them.. here is picture of header dumps.. They bolt to header, and collector bolts to them ! reach in, and turn, and voila! instant race car!... Previous owner, said open headers were worth 6 tenths!! love the sound of Flowmasters on Ventura
Last summer on the Laurentian's first trip out I stopped for gas. When I got out of the car some guy filling up his car said "Sounds sweet man". That was good enough for me!
I will take a video of mine with just headers and cherrybombs, no pipe after the bombs yet, and put it on youtube and compare the two. I would not go bombs with yours but its fun to hear anyways. My brother put flowmasters on his and they sound great, real nice low sound with his trans am 301 turbo car.
I think I like the low back pressure Corvair mufflers idea best, I have mostly used stock mufflers on anything I had, a couple times I ran Walker turbo 400's but even they seem to be a strange loud-the best was probably my 66 Corvette with a 427/390 and side exhaust which are chambered pipes-I realize side exhaust is not an option but you can buy chambered pipes not sure how good that would sound with those long tailpipes, Camaro and Nova usually sounds nice.
My bike sets off car alarms so I dont think I could give good advise I like them loud! My belair had 3" dual's no mufflers it set off alarms to. I have a flow master on the wagon and it sound nice. But its pretty quite.

I bought a car with flow masters and thought I would change them because of the noise. After driving it for a year they are here to stay. At about 5000 Rpm it sounds like you unleashed a monster!!! The guys at work giggle like kids when I take off. Trust me you will like them.
