VERY sharp looking car. I've always wanted a 70 Eldorado with the big 500 engine. I had a blue Eldorado Hot Wheel when I was a kid, I guess it would have been a 69 or 70. Jay Leno's is a 66 Toronado, twin turbo converted to rear wheel drive.
....but they will smoke the front tires. Look at that car, no wonder GM was the style King. I love that front end and the tail lights are just too cool. Chain drive almost bullet proof, U joints weak.
Had a 66 Toranado, and it would smoke the front tires, and the back ones if you dragged it far enough. The only problem I remember was the front end, because it was very heavy over the wheels. They had lots of power and yes the u-joints were weak.

The most expensive part to watch for is the drive chain. It can start to skip and destroy the transaxle. Easy to tell when you floor it. Halfshafts and C.V. joints will tend to wear. I have a friend with several of them, so if you need parts let me know. They are very dependable cars and are cheap to buy in today's market. One of GM's most elegant looking cars, and a Bill Mitchell classic design. Notice how the taillights have made there way onto the new Cadillac's?
I loved the Toros and hacked the front frame/transaxle out of the last one I had so buddy and I could make a rear engine machine.. We got as far as welding a Camaro clip to it and I think the 'roller' is still behind the barn at buddy's farm besdie my old '69 442 Post car that we made a stock car out of?.
The Eldo I had was weak and rusty in the trunk floor/rear frame structure so take careful note in these areas.. I unloaded it about 1981 after patching it and kicking out the mouse family that was living in the support channels under the trunk floor!.

Cool car. This reminds me of that commercial for the Kia Soul where the mobsters roll up in the early 70's Caddy and get out to take a look at it. I'd rather have their Caddy than that ugly Kia!

Ain't that the truth. I like how the kidnapped guy escapes from the mobster car while they're looking at the Kia, and runs down the street with a bag over his head.
isnt it hard to find wheels because of the offset or bolt pattern?
The wheels are getting harder to find, but 66 to 79 Toronado and 67 to 78 Eldorado are the same offset so there is still a few around and these cars have not caught on big with collectors so they are affordable still.
I would say that is a major floor pan rust out. I noticed that picture too. You have to see it in person, but that doesn't look good. It's not hard to find a nice rust free one on the Bay for not a lot of money. These Cadi's are a bargain, same as Toronado's. Maybe because of front drive, but it seems the big luxo barges of the 60's & '70's never caught on. 67-70 Eldo's are a nice size, and one of the best built cars of the era. Hands down they can compete with any Euro trash of the same vintage, including Rolls and Benz for quality. Style wise they are very unique and stand up well. If you want I can ask the guy in Woodstock if he will sell any of his. He has quite a fleet, just sitting.
