Word of warning for prospective Pypes exhaust and likely other exhaust suppliers buyers

Not sure if anyone has purchased any mandrel bent exhaust from Pypes or anyother exhaust manufacturer (I actually think they are made in Canada and sold to Pypes ect) I have recently purchased to systems the first was for my LeMans Sport and this is the PS Tailpipe I got.DSC01457.JPG

I was a little upset but decided to wait till I got the F-Body system I had ordered. When I recieved the second system it also had a weld on the curve over the axle.I called Pypes and was told their bender that does the PS bends is broken and won't be repaired and this is how the pipes will be sold.Pipe still functions and performs but I find the weld out of place especially when I have other sytems I have installed on customers and my own cars and the aforementioned pipe was a single piece.Still love the Pypes systems just a little dissapointed.

Ian

Wow! That looks like something one of those chain muffler shops would do. Give Waldrons a call. I had good luck with them.

Boy, I agree with the local muffler shop comment. That is not what I would expect if I ordered from Pypes either. I have read lots of good about them and seen some of their stuff.

You can't get a muffler shop to mandrel bend stainless!  Come on guys!!  Compression bends and mandrel bends are totally different!

agree, maybe i should have worded my reply differently. still not impress with what they sent Ian. if your spending that much money on a top notch exhaust i would expect top notch work not a token reply, equipments broken.

9t8z28 I almost get the feeling you are related to Pypes exhaust some how you come on here and this is the only topic you respond to . If the pipes of the past were all one piece and all of a sudden there is joints I would be a little pissed too. If you are from Pypes exhaust maybe you should say so and state you case not just come on here and slam others.

If I'm spending top dollar, I don't expect junk! I need a custom bent with cutouts duplicated as they were a gm part (now discontinued) and I'm glad to have read this, as I will find a different company to re-construct what I need. Who need's junk anyway?confuse

what i was thinking but because this is a open forum i decided that my initial statement was a little harsh. maybe i should let it sit on my computer for awhile before responding. but the 2 piece rear pipe reminds me of a story, i was getting a exhaust system bent up for a jeep that i had put a 350 into must be 10 or more years ago. the guy doing the bending took his time and made one piece pipes for going over the axle on each side. the one thing i do remember he said most shop if they were doing custom exhaust would take a short cut and split the pipes into 2 pieces for going over the axles. to make there job easier.

You could be right. 9t78z28 and Pypes both hail from Pa..

RE: I don't get it.

I never responded to this thread when it first came up mostly because I didn't see the issue being raised. IMO that picture that Ian put up shows a top quality professional product, much better than anything GM would ever have put on the car in the first place. It appears that the joint is tight and well engineered to provide maximunm uninteruppted flow in contrast to a compression bent piece. I can't see how that would affect the performance of any car the way most of use and drive them as once in a while go to the cruise on Sunday cars.

RE: Word of warning for prospective Pypes exhaust and likely other exhaust suppliers buyers

You are correct   I used have all my exhaust done in Stratford and they often did the tailpipes like that    He always brazed them as well for me ... of course I never had the car, the next year..
