If they would have included the last 3 weeks I'm sure Vancouver would have been a lot higher than 8th. No wonder there's a demand for armoured cars and bullet proof vests.
I feel very safe living 10 minutes from Yonge and Bloor in Toronto. Other than murders Toronto is not on any other list. Seems to me the gangs and criminals are killing each other for the most part. There are however tragedies of innocent by-standers being killed which is just terrible. The most notable was a beautiful young woman on Boxing day a few years ago.
We have a rv site near the Duncan, B.C city center and have two gun shot deaths in less than a year. Out in the country we have guns and don't fart around. In the city people assume that other people don't have guns and end up dead. My point is that bums and drug dealers don't travel out to rural areas to sell dope. They just grow it there. I can hit the corner of my gate with a 22 from my window. They can't run that fast.
5 of the top ten are in BC. That,s why the RCmP just bought a new Helicopter at over 20 million and to service the two helicopters for 1 year is over a million. Gangs and drug dealers have all the rights in this country. So much for our stinking, crappy gun law in this country. Just my two cents as our tax dollars our being used to follow one of the badest around all day so he don't get shot.
MacLeans has published the top crime cities in Canada. Very interesting read if not surprising. Here are the top ten most crime riden cities:
1. Saskatoon 2. Winnipeg 3. Regina 4. Prince George 5. Edmonton 6. Chilliwack 7. Halifax 8. Vancouver 9. Surrey 10. Victoria
Ontario and Quebec cities dominate the Safest cities listed
Um, lol, I know I'm a little slow, but when did, Ontario and Quebec become cities? Would someone be as so kind as to let me know, when Canada, becomes a Province
I know it looks bad for Winnipeg, but they figure per population. Lots of cities have more murders and more crime than we do, I would like to see how that looks per city, total murder and crime regardless of pupulation , then who would be first and last.

May I suggest that you re-read the sentence. The sentence does not suggest that Ontario and Quebec are in themselves a city. The sentence indicates that cities in those two provinces are shown to be the safest in Canada. I guess if you read it quickly you might miss the meaning. In other words, each province is comprised of villages, towns and cities and of the cities listed as safest most are in Ontario and Quebec. Sorry to cause you any confusion.
We slipped a bit!... no surprises there... you can follow the demographics per capita and see how that relates to domestic abuse and petty crime increase (drugs'n'domestics)... Downtown Winnipeg isn't too bad in terms of safety, but i feel more safe in downtown toronto than here...mainly because its an active downtown...
Lets remember, the numbers are per capita. So don't think Toronto doesn't have it's share, it's just there is so many freakin people there, you don't notice a couple murders a day.......

Toronto is # 9 in murders. Per capita is about the only way to fairly account for the different populations in each centre. There were 84 killings in 2007, 42 of the murders were shootings, 22 were stabbings, and 14 were caused by trauma (blunt force). The cause of six murders was either unknown or unreleased.
84 murders is about one every 4 or 5 days not a couple a day, that would be 730 a year !
