Collections and the Crusher

I attended this heartbreaker last summer. About seven hundred vehicles all makes sold by auction one at a time in around six hours!! The majority were sold to a local crusher because the bidding slowed at about eighty to one hundred dollars. Hopefully the price of scrap stays down for a while. I was sick to my stomach as this was cash only and I was only able to buy three cars. This auction was well advertised for at least six months in many publications and on line. I took these pics at a later visit to the site. Ken.

What 3 vehicles did you save? Where was this auction?

Auction was just outside Saskatoon. Another member, Ed, bought his 60 two door post there. I'm sure he too can tell us about some of the gems that were lost to the crusher. I bought a 68 Impala custom two door...missed the 68 Police car! Also a 69 Impala custom buckets console car, and a 67 Beaumont four door sedan. The majority of these cars and trucks were intact right down to the hubcaps and keys.Talk was that this guy frequented the local Police auctions for many years and DID NOT sell parts. Ken.

Ain't people got no respect???? Saw the same thing at Hencor scrapyard Vanderbijlpark South Africa. All sent to the smelters next door when the steel price was up! Not bothered with the restorer! Now that the price of steel is down, the price of spare parts have gone up through the roof and few people buy spares in this time of resession!!! So now they are doomed to the rust heap!!! Lose-Lose!

There's a lot on those cars isn't metal. He should at least let hobbyists take all the lenses, glass etc before they went to the crusher. What a waste.

Why don't these people advertise on these types of car sites. We had a local guy clean out his yard and let it all go cheap to further the hobby. I go by our metal recycler very often and one day a 1960 buick was in the pile with a mint grill. It's very sad to see them go. I have saved 13 Beaumonts. Some of them could of been in that pile too.

           I'd say 66 Impala Carl.

That's the real reason they were crushed. Even a rusty but complete parts car is worth more than that. $100 doesn't even buy a good armrest anymore.

Hello Ken, I didn't know you were lurking on here too. I really wish I had money left over to buy more of those cars-oh well. At least some have been saved or helping to save others.
Here are the only pictures I have:

Wow! Every car in that picture has a least $500 worth of parts. Did they all get crushed?

Everything that didn't sell got crushed. Those stacks in the pics I took with my phone were the outer edges of five or six rows all shoved so tight together that I could not squeeze in between with my body. About four hundred cars and trucks was the estimate I heard. The thing that really shook me up was this...there was no shortage of buyers there, the stuff just wasn't selling. I have a yard full of the same stuff, have I spent all these years collecting Edsels ?!!
