Awesome. Looks like "Yorkville", I'd almost hang my hat on Scollard Street.

Its the kind of stuff you just want to put a frame around it and hang it on the wall. The heck with the wifes flowery pictures in the living room. LoL

Now there's a good idea! Put all the prints together and make garage wallpaper. I wonder if Fitz would be interested, lol!

If you look at the page with all the little thumbs, Imagine it done in a poster sized sheet. It'd look great.

I have several copies of that ad in different sizes, one day I am actually going to get one of them framed!

It is definitely Yorkville, so nice that Toronto could play a part in an advertising campaign that featured places from all over the world.  I guess even back then Yorkville was considered very "continental" and a good back drop for car you would like to take for an evening out on the town.

The name of that painting is actually "Toronto".

Is Yorkville still the "hip" place it used to be? I google mapped the area, and it seems some highrise developments are beginning to pop up. Will the old charm eventually be lost?

I guess he called it Toronto because unless you were from here, no one would know where Yorkville is.  There are still several streets that look exactly like that, ironically all located north of Yorkville Ave. itself.  Yorkville and Cumberland, the two main commercial drags, have really been taken over by high end boutiques, restaurants and galleries, but they still retain a lot of their original character, even though some higher buildings are starting to encroach now.

I'd say Yorkville is still the place to be or go. High rent district for sure, you've got all of the high high end fashion & jewelry stores, Holts, Prada, Chanel, Vera Wang, Tiffanies, Cartier, Swarovski etc..

And The Pilot just down the street, on the other side of Bay St.  I like our motto;

"We look down on Yorkville". biggrin

I might head up to the Flight Deck for one after work tomorrow - care to make the voyage downtown?

As for the Custom Sport, biggrin.

There was a good article in Collectible Automobile about Van Kaufman. I'll try to find the issue.
I really love his watercolour work.

Speaking of Yorkville, a friend and I went to The Riverboat (basement coffee house) in Yorkville somewhere around 1965 and found out that a new young female singer/guitarist would be singing that evening.

We were early and sat down to drink some coffee while we waited. Being the young bozos that we were, we starting bull-shooting about the artist we'd never heard of...blah, blah....probably won't be any good....blah, blah. You know what I mean.

The crowd rolled in and a few minutes later a young lady who was sitting at the table right in front of us got up, picked up her guitar and walked to the stage........Joni Mitchell had been sitting 3 feet from us.

Needless to say, we shut the hell up after that. rofl.gif

We got to hear Joni in one of her first Toronto gigs.....right there in Yorkville.

Very neat story Bob. Somehow somewhere we hooked up with George Oliver and we would often be his guests at The Blue Note just off Belmont.

My sister's friend was Dominec Troiano's sister and Roy Kenner lived on our Street, both from Mandal and James Gang fame, Troiano also with the Guess Who, and they hung out there too. One day on my way home from school I saw Troiano and Burt Cummings coming out of Troiano's mom's house. Wow.
