Pontiac Camel Humps 3890462 dated ...


Going through some of my stuff and what I always figured were '67 Camaro 327ci heads turn out to be marked Canada near the casting numbers..  Dates on these heads are L11 6 and L14 6 respectively...  One can still see the "bluish/green" overspray towards the intake side - not much... I did not own a '67 Pont. anything except a Firebird but that was in fact a 326ci... Is it possible the heads were put on my Camaro somehow in the U.S. and then shipped up here as a 67 Camaro package. 
Not sure if selling, but the question is kinda bugging me...

First, welcome!

The heads should be Chevy orange, even if they were on a Canadian Pontiac. Someone must have done a color change at some point.

As far as Canadian castings on a US car, someone else may know better but I would think that would have been entirely possible.

I agree with Carl, must have had a repaint at some point. I also think it plausible that Canadian castings find there way onto a US built car. I have a cars assembled in Hamtramck MI, Arlington TX,  Silao Mexico and they have  "Made in Canada" parts all over them and conversely my two Oshawa cars have "Made in USA" parts on them.

Interestingly the Chevy engine foundary and plant in Tonawanda NY and the McKinnon GM Canada foundary and plant in St. Catherines ON were only a short drive apart.

Just a little info I have on this head casting number. Nothing about Canadian conection but shows what that number was used for in the USA cars.

The old 327 I had was from a 67' Pontiac and had 462's on it.  It was an all original motor and never taken apart until I did.  Still had factory head gaskets in it.

It was orange and 1 head was cast 6 monthes before the other - the early casting was very poor, and the mould number on it was -1.  The later cast head was a much better casting and had a -4 mould number. 

The crappy early head was cast in canada and the later much better cast head wasn't.   The motors production date was a month after the late cast head.

So - they were definately sending parts back and forth for cars,  so you could have US and Canadian cast parts on the same engine.

I sold those heads a few monthes ago.

I'll see if I can throw some pics at you.. '76 LeMans / 81 Z28 and a f'glass Opel GT that was certified good for Super Gas mebbee 4 years ago.. Had a Rear Engine BBC but, NorTel got to me circa 2000 and haddta sell her rolling of course.. Got some neat Poncho parts a hanging around e.g. 670 "un-screwed with D port" heads / 400 and 350 American blocks and a couple of late 60's early 70s QJets and cams and intake (1) and so on and so on..
I do appreciate the info you guys have dished out...
