Attached is a photo of an Acadian seen in the car corral at the Charlotte Auto Fair at Lowe's Motor Speedway in North Carolina April 2-5.

Those are correct 1962 back up lights.  A one year only design.

MY BEAUMONT HAS 4 STUDDED TIRES AND 2 BLOCKHEATERS......AND LOTS OF OIL UNDERNEATH.  The other one has a longer roof.

Those backup lights must have been an option or dealer installed because my 62 Acadian Beaumont 4 dr doesn't have them.

That 62 Acadian has just finished two tours on eBay with no sale.

As I recall backup lights were optional up to at least 1965 on most GM's.

I think you are right about that. I think backup lights and a left outside mirror became standard safety features in 66, like dual master cylinders in 67, side marker lights in 68, and head restraints in 69. I'm not sure when seat belts became mandatory but I think it was around 66 or 67. My 65 Pontiac that had only front belts.

That's where I've seen that car! I was sure I'd seen pictures of it's twin somewhere just recently.
