Hi guys, I'd like to decode my 72 LeMans' VIN & Cowl tag to see how it rolled out of the factory back in '71.
does anybody know how to do the decoding?

On you vin the 2-Pontiac The 252 white bench R- Built in Arlington D-Lemans 37-body style 56-monarch yellow Ext colour H- Engine 11-cameo white Int colour 2- last digit of model year
Thanks for the help everybody, I guess my car's a long way from where it started eh? Too bad it's an american car, I thought the Chev motor was a dead give away. Oh well, guess it's a transplant....

Sorry I have been infrequently on site this past week. This is NOT an American car. Fellas, the VIN confirms this car was built in Oshawa, 7th digit is a "1" which is Oshawa Plant. The engine code 5th digit is "H" and that is the Chevy 350 2bbl. The H code is a Canadian Pontiac and Chevrolet code. US Pontiac 350 2bbl are M.
The data plates are sure to confuse, but the VIN is the thumb print. BTW Plant 1 is Oshawa and Plant 2 is Ste. Therese. 72 LeMans were produced in both places. US cars of this vintage have letter codes for the Plants in the 7th position.

Are the Oshawa options different from the US options? I don't see those #'s under the options. 361 is the safety track rear end and most all options start at 300 for the US cars
