65 Malibu does 850 mile mountainous trip.

The more the Malibu went up and down the passes the smoother the engine
became as it started to work after standing still for 25 Years!
Enjoy the Pictures and Mountain scenery of our beautiful Mpumalanga.

Hullo Carl, The rainy season has passed and being in the mountains there are no flood Plains like your area!  I was busy editing and added another view of the escarpment called "Gods Window"  Reminds me of the "Lost" TV series!  Hope the runoff is picking up in your "Sea lake"!!!

By the way that 250CID Motor gave me 9.3 Km/L!! That motor has stood for 25 Yrs and never opened or run!  Just shows you they new how to build them and the engine is too stupid to know when it has had ebnough!!!  It just keeps on going!!

Here are some details on the car's performace:
This Malibu is tough! Stood for 25 Yrs and went on a 1289km trip like it was a Sunday outing! Only problem was Gearbox fluid cooling pipe nut to radiator stripped. Garry's tune-up centre in Graskop solved the problem. Removed the tubes, blanked off the gearbox topped up the fluid and the Malibu ran better! Cost? R50!!! Thanks Tienie!!! Had enough passes to test the brakes! Robbers Pass (x 8 times) Pilgrimsrest to Graskop (X 8 Times) Long Tom Pass and finaly back down Robbers Pass (x 2 ) These are there and back! over the same route. On the freeway 9 Km/L Removed petrol return system as it worked too well on the passes, Ran the Carburettor dry going uphill!

Unbelievable!!! the attention and comments. I was allowed to park in a no-parking zone infront of a restaurant two days running.  They got a lot of business I think!

Overseas Tourists took photos, Mpumalanga is a popular tourist area. I also told the people of the support fro Canadian Poncho and they were amazed!!  Good PRO!!

Loosks like an awesome trip, Johann!! I have had the same thing happen to me on an old van my Dad and I drove from Labrador. The engine was sluggish from all those short runs but the closer I got to Saskatchewan, the better it ran and made on fuel. The flatlands of the Prairies helped as well, though!!!
Very nice pics of the local area and a two thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif on the trip!!

Something I must share with all of you! We had a small exhibition at one of our local highschools today. One member came up to me and commented that I only seem attend the shows close to home. "Am I afraid of distance" He really gave me the gap a person can only dream Of!!! I replied: " I could not attend the show in "Potch" yesterday as I was in Mpumalanga 500 k's away. Comment: Oh. I Replied: Yes with the Malibu. I did not see him the for rest of the day LOL!!!!

It's no wonder you got all that attention Johann. You're parked on the wrong side of the road!!!

Beautiful country Johan. I've just enjoyed viewing close to 800 pictures that my daughter took while touring through your country, truly spectacular. It was sort of neat for her waking up to zebras and giraffes outside her hotel but I think she enjoyed the people the most. Great experience and memory for an eighteen year old and her friends. Maybe some day. I asked her if she saw any old cars like mine but she had her eyes fixed on other things. Neat to hear how that six is performing, I get to cruise about the same speed as you. Take care.

The Cannon's name is Long Tom and was used during the Anglo/Boer war by the Boer's.  It was destroyed by the Boer's to prevent the British from using it. Some of the parts have been re-made and re-stored.

Carl; That is why my steering is on the wrong side!!! We Boer's are difficult people!!

Hullo again!!!
My Malibu is my pride and joy and still runs everyday to work and back and has made a second trip to Mpumalanga with no hassle!!!!

Unfortunately my signal unit in the column has given the ghost after 45 yrs of service.  This is where I need your assistance please. I need to purchase a new or good used unit and would appreciate if somebody could purchase and airpost it to me in South Africa.  I will pay in advance to cover the cost of the unit and postage and a beer or two!(Paypall)  Last time the hubcaps went via China and took a couple of months!!biggrin  I have them still and are in safe keeping.

Here is what the switch looks like!  Same as the Beaumont!
