So, with the demise of Pontiac, and the ever important product placement and brand recognition necessary in today's TV shows what would old Jimbo be tearing up the streets with today? I still love the Firebird Esprit's James Garner drove in the original ROCKFORD FILES. I bought one last year as I was going to use it for parts on a 76 Trans Am resto, but a local guy convinced me not to cut it up and he bought it restore. Well guys what do you think would make a suitable replacement?
Well he drove a car from a performance manufacturer but it wasn't the top performance car. It was a two door so he'd stay with that style, it wasn't a high dollar car either. I'd have to consider all of those things and end up with the picture below:
I can't see him driving something foreign. I'd have to say he'd be still hanging onto the Esprit. Probably got it restored, and added a little power. If anything he might have a newer Monte. I'm trying to keep him running with the General.
Those are awesome links, those Vettes look so bad a$$ it's not funny. Looks Like Jim showed up in a nice Caprice. Did anyone notice the hood up on the team support Chevrolet wagon, must have been hot rodding the support vehicle.
I got a good picture of old Jimbo at the Indy 500 the year he was the marshall and pace car pilot. He's a real car guy and did all his own stunt driving in the Rockford Files as well as other movies. He got mobbed everywhere he went at Indy, so I didn't bother him for a photo-op and autograph. He was out walking around with a few of the other drivers and was pretty nonchalant about it until a few women started screaming at him.
I believe he was the only star to drive in the classic Grand Prix (1966).
Very true. The others were either too scared or were just horrible drivers. I actually pulled the video off the shelf one night last week and was watching it. Such a great film, especially with all the drivers you see in it. I wasn't even born when the film was made or someone like Fangio was racing, but there i was picking him out, Phil Hill, Graham Hill, Bruce McLaren, Jochen Rindt...and i know there were more. I also loved how Jimmy handled that Hertz Mustang!
