Sorry i wondering about the engine not the car,lol wonder if its the same motor as the Grand National?

It's an early version of the 3.8 Turbo. Low pressure, carb, not too aggresive in cam,etc. It was the start of the Buick resurgence into Turbo technology for the 2nd time that ended with the 87 Grand National GNX.
There was an Indy Pace car built on this same 77-79 big car body style but I think it was an Oldsie...1977 maybe?.
Looking at the '77 and up Chevy and BOP big cars, I've always noted the door lock cyl. position to determine if 77-79 or 80 and up.. The lock cyl. is under the handle on 77-79 cars and beside the handle on '80 and up cars.. Sorry Ray, this trick doesn't work on Caddys!.

I hope I don't offend anyone with my thoughts on this one. Those cars are slugs. They were a very poor setup. We had a customer with the Regal version when I was at the Pontiac dealer in the early 80's. As mentioned, lots of driveablility woes.
On a positive note, I guess it laid the ground work for the Grand Nationals and we all know that story......

77 was the year I got my licence and my dads demo was a 78 Regal v6 turbo boy did the lights on the dash flash lots when I drove. It went pretty quick for a 6 but nothing like the Grand National. I don't know why but by 79 his boss said I could not drive his cars any more.

I actually have one of these as a parts car (smashed but low mileage) but I really don't know what to do with it. Occasionally I fantasize about sticking it in with a TH200 in my 70 CST pickup which presently has a 250 and a TH 350. It would really be different but I had no idea that they were that unrefined.
Are the old carburated ones really worth doing anything with?
