Keith's was the most popular in Halifax county in the early '70's. The guys in my area used to say "Sooner a Schooner than nothin' at all" and they  called Alpine, Alpiss

I like Pepsi Max.  I believe Black Label is a Canadian beer and sells well here. Although there is nothing like an ice cold Pilsner when you are hot and sweaty from working on a Saturday!  A good wine with friends over a meal realy goes down well!  Especialy South African wines!  I've tried overseas wines Yuk!

Yeah, and a lot! smile It's one of my favourite drinks too though many ladies prefer sweet drinks like cider. Finnish cider is very sweet unlike real British cider.

Dave,  I take it you can't partake of the nectur anymore.  While I was in Ft Myers this past winter I had my own stash of Sleeman's Dark, I pick it up everytime I cross the border.
When out to eat I enjoy a Blue Moon and now Budweiser makes a clone called "Shock Top".

I was on a 6 month UN tour in the Golan Heights in 1991, and we shared the camp with a Finnish Battalion. Do Finns drink beer? You better believe it! And most of the Finns I met there were huge car fans as well. (And they also like the Sauna)

Doctor ordered me off beer after discovering 99% clogged carotid artery, so I went from 2 cases a week to zero. But that has been a few years back, so now and again I do enjoy a frosty bottle.

Hope you have time for us to get together next time you're down here!!!

Is the artery clear now Dave? That's scary! I too cannot drink any alcohol for health reasons. This sucks as I sure liked going out for wings and a few cold ones! At least I can still eat the wings...

My favorite is "Grasshopper" by Big Rock Brewery here in Calgary.

www.bigrockbeer.com/#/beer/grasshopper

I was a shareholder in the 90's, and went to the annual shareholder meeting one day, it was held in their restaurant.  I proceeded to get quite tanked.

Wings are bad for you too!!!

Just kidding! biggrin

Actually, if they're nice and greasy fried, they probably are on the 'bad for you' list ... most foods that taste good are <sigh>

Yes the artery is repaired:

We are finally back on line after the computer crashing for the past 5 days. I drove a beer truck for 30 years in Ontario for Brewers Retail so I really do know the taste of all beers brewed in Canada. In the earlier years every time there was a new beer being marketed all the employees were given a sample 6 pack from one of the beer company salesmen so I have tried just about every brand on the market. My all time favorite for the past 35 years is Molson Export a heavy tasting ale with a strong after bite. When Ex is not available in bars or restaurants because of deals being made with salesman for brand exclusive ie Labatt products only I will  have an Alexander Keiths Ale which is close to Ex in taste. I do not like the lagers as I find them to sweet tasting and I will only drink draught beer from bars and restaurants that have a very high volume of beer sales. The beer is best when when served ice cold. A few months ago the alcohol volume in Ex was lowered from 5% to 4.9% and there was no difference in taste. When we vacation in the US I will buy whatever is on sale and try different brands. This past winter Icehouse was one I liked.Brand choice in beer is a personal taste issue and the most important issue is to drink it responsibly and when you are going to drink a few with  your friends do not drink and drive.

You used to be able to go to Brewers Retail and make your own 6 pack from a number of different brands. I enjoyed trying all the smaller brands. I don't think you can do that anymore.

The mixed six was only available in larger centers and was a pain in the butt for inventory. They used to put the remains of damaged cases in those coolers. I filed a complaint with the Ministry of Labour and the Health Unit about the way the product was cleaned before being placed in the coolers because upper management ignored my initial complaint to them. The result was no repacking of bottles that came from a case that had broken glass and all damaged cases were returned to the brewer because Brewers Retail did not have adaquate facilities for proper sterilization of the bottles.

you guys would cry if you were to visit Canadian Liquids in Hamilton. They recycle Hundreds of gallons a beer each day at there plant. Must be out dated beer but the plant operates 5 days a week and the pile never seems to go down. Its a crime, what a waste!

I worked for Labatt's. The beer going down the drain on each shift would make you cry. The only recycling was of the bottles. Maybe that's why the Sturgeon grow so big in the Fraser River (beer bellies)
