Need a good late 60's 427 Engine Photo

Anyone got a good photo of a 69 427 on a stand painted the correct colours?

Was the harmonic balancer orange or black? Once you remove the large centre bolt on the balance should it come off easy or do I need a puller? If it is painted orange I wont have to worry about removing it.

Thx
Todd

Hey look here, an orange harmonic balancer!

Found on a Corvette site so it has to be RIGHT!

You WILL need a harmonic balancer puller to get it off, it will NOT come off without damage any other way. You also should use a harmonic balancer installer to put it back on (although you can put it on using other methods).

I do not believe that Corvette picture, spark plug wires were black OEM (as on my Chevelle SS396 which I bought new in 1966) unless it was a 1966 Corvette 427 in which case they were steel braid covering OEM (for radio interference), I had a 67 Corvette 427 and they were steel braid covering OEM - and OEM distributer caps most certainly were never blue (they were black) - so that picture is not of an OEM motor.

The few engine photos I have don't show the harmonic balancer but memory tells me it was black - I'd carefully paint the 0 mark white to make it easier to check timing. But I am not 100% sure of this.

basically everything gets painted "Chevy" orange (not Chrysler orange).  Mask off the machined surfaces of the exhaust manifold, water pump and carb.  Balancer is definately orange.  If you do want to pull ithe balancer you'll need a puller, and use a installer to install it (I banged one on with a sledgehammer in my youger days, dented the crap out of it).  It's amazing how easy things are when the right tools are used.

Or you could just paint it what ever colour you want and just enjoy the torque that you will get shifting threw the gears after the 4 speed conversion.wink

Ya, I'm with Earl, just get that orange rattle can going and let her rip. Look at the brochure photo
below from 66, they even painted the exhaust manifolds orange too!  And yes the Balancer
is orange too on the Big Block!
