its good to here you are up and about! i guess you won't be doing to much looking around at barrie, it must be getting pretty large now. i haven't gone to barrie in years.

Dan, I have been vending with a friend at Barrie for about 15 years.  I would say it peaked about 3-4 years ago in terms of the number of vendors and "finds".  Lots of empty spaces now in the middle of the vendor fields as many just can't be bothered any more.  Personally I have not "scored" anything good there for several years, I go now mostly to sell and catch up with friends who I only see there once a year.  Last fall I did well unloading a whole bunch of stuff that had been taking up space in my garage (all non Pontiac stuff BTW) and spent most of Sat afternoon shooting the breeze and enjoying some beverages.wink

I think the internet has finally been discovered by most of the vendors there so the only stuff that gets hauled up there now is mostly junk or stuff that is too big or heavy to ship like fenders, axles, etc.  Plus that old cantakerous fart that runs the place, Don Haney, is just driving people away by cranking up the prices for everything left, right and centre while imposing more and more onerous rules all the time.  Many of vendors have quit going just because they can't stand dealing with Haney any more.  Many of the fees for things like renting a private outhouse have more than doubled in the last five years.  I hear there is now serious talk of an alternate swap meet being started in the Barrie area.  I think the vendors would flock there in droves if given the chance.

Sounds like a plan, I'll bring my cell phone and CAA card as well so we will have double protection, it may even warm up by then!  Can't say I was pleased to wake up this morning on the first day of June to hear my furnace humming away!no

I'll be in touch, I've only driven the LeMans once to Thornhill so far this year, had to change a fan belt too. I have lots of time to buff it up and make it presentable for the 100 point boys. It's never let me down, longest run is Toronto to Penetang and back, a good 2 hour run on the highway. I've had it up at the cottage for two week spells in the summer doing some cruises around Georgina Bay. It's reliable he says with his fingers crossed.  pray.gif

Instead of Barrie, wouldn't it make sense to have a big swap meet along the 401 corridor perhaps between Windsor and Toronto? In the 25 years I've been into cars I have never been to the Barrie swap meet.

There was a time when Barrie was King and others didn't dare try hosting anything that weekend. That's all changed now. And for all the reasons previously given.

I was able to get to Barrie and Plunkett's for the last three years but decided to pass this year. Had I known about Pinks at Cayuga, I might have tried to fit it in. Oh well, too late now. Work takes priority.

On the subject of the Barrie swap meet, I have noticed a big decline in the availability of parts that I need compared to when I went to spring or fall Barrie in the 80s & 90s. I assume the parts supply supply is drying up. Same goes for the cars for sale. Last time I recall seeing a good selection of  cars on the sales field - i.e. cars I actually wanted to or considered buying - was 2001  when I passed on a gold 68 SD 396 Beaumont and a gold 69 Impals SS 427 4 speed. (Sorry now that I didn't buy one of them).

Maybe the supply issue is real. I went to the Charlotte Auto Fair in April of this year. There were a lot of nice cars for sale, many of them fairly priced in my view, but I didn't find a lot of parts in the vendor fields there either.

Looks like I might be heading to Cayuga on Saturday, my father-in-law wants to go.
Then I'll go to the Barrie swap meet on Sunday, of course all the good stuff will be gone by then, but it'll be a nice long walk around the park looking at everything.

Both still require a lot of work.

Ash Gold 68SD396 ? there was an original paint one there spring of 1999 for $10,000 - I passed on it with it being a CE block and marketed as #'s match for an agreed deal of $9500, Larry bought it sold it to Woodbridge (who cleaned it up)had it at Oshawa GM show (16,900) selling it to Milton (who painted it) asking $22,000, I bought it fall 2000 ($17,300) sold it late spring 2001 to Ancaster-it was at Woodward summer 2001 for sale and later traded in at Legendary for sale at $28,000-same car ?

Maybe I got the timing wrong. I have been there during many of the last 10 years. The year I was looking at it, it was for sale in the $10K range, had been just driven up from Quebec with QC plates,  needed work in the quarters but body was otherwise not bad, and it had front disc brakes with 14" rally wheels. Does this sound like the same car that you eventually bought?.

same car-I was parked beside it in a friend's 67 Lemans-that sold-I could have had the beaumont at $9500 but shyed away at the CE block not that it was a big deal just that he was pushing original #'s match-I did later buy the car 3 owners later-of coures nobody checked any numbers !
