1985 El Camino, 350 w/ auto, two-tone gray ... but not fast enough, so:
1992 Mustang GT convertible, 302 V-8 w/ 5-speed, British Racing Green w/ white leather interior and top - that sucker was fater than anything I encountered and got me in lots of trouble - sold it (and the 67 Corvette and the 86 Chrysler ragtop and the racecar and the trailer and the Crewcab Dually) and moved to Hawaii, and then:
1977 Jeep CJ-7, 304 V-8 w/ 3-speed 4WD, bikini top and what more did you need? This baby took me all over Maui where no 2WD vehicle could go ... but then I moved to Oahu and four-wheeling was more limited, so, I bought this and drove it from Fort Lauderdale to Seattle then shipped to Hawaii:
at Painted Desert
at Grand Canyon
at Kailua Beach
overlooking Waikiki and Diamond Head
L-88 clone Corvette roadster, 427 w/ aluminum heads, 4-speed, side exhaust, 4.11 Posi, 8 mpg and had to use octane additive or get racing fuel but it was worth it but later moved back to the mainland and so needed a commuter:
1997 Chevrolet S-10 pickup, 4 cyl. w/ 5-speed (notice youngest son's Beetle in the background), great truck but it got totaled by a guy who ran a red light, so:
2002 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab, 4.7 V-8 w/ 5-speed auto - and that's it - except for my 56 Canadian Pontiac in-the woks!

Sweet cars, I love being a trend setting Poster. Hey were you in the military? My Uncle was career USMC and was stationed at Pearl, and my Aunt and Cousins and him lived in Hawaii for several years. That shot of your Vette with Diamond head in the background is too cool.

Thanks! I was not in military (just a little too old for Vietnam) but we did live in Kailua and USMC base at Kaneohe was just down the road a little bit. I sold my Jeep to a Marine - it was great on Maui (where I first lived in Hawaii) but not much 4-wheeling access for civilians on Oahu - I was glad that someone who could enjoy it bought it from me.

always liked those fox body ragtop mustangs-I had an 86 GT hatchback that seems faster than my big block Corvette-had a couple mid year Corvettes too-seems everyone loves them
quite the varied collection. i still have my 78 cj7. i was in hawaii in the late 80's numerous time with the Canadian navy. i do remember one time renting a suzuki samurai to tour the island. and asking the young fellow with me to keep his eyes open for a pineapple tree.
Yeah those old Jeeps were great open-air warm-weather rides. Maui was great for off-roading, Oahu not so much, however military has access the public does not. Don't know if they extended such courtesies to visiting navies.
Steve, I hope someone informed you gently how pineapples really grow
