Why was GM so successful with 3.8L Turbo setup on Buick GN's and not so fortunate on the 301 Turbos of 79/81 TransAm's?

More development on the 3.8's, plus intercooler on the later ones.

I would also guess it has to do with the port size on the 301 head. They are very very tiny.
