I picked up a set of these today from the swap meet. Does anyone know what they are for? On the back is stamped: Made in Canada 738541. They look like they fit over the center section of the wheel, almost like a Chevy police cap.

Geez Hillar, this one is easy 1973/74 Pontiac Astre.
No need to start questioning me because I am 100% on these as I had some in the basement off my sisters car, so I know. I sold them on ebay. You are right though they fit over the centre of the 13"wheels. I kept mine for years too but they never fit on any 14" steelie so they were cool dust collectors at the end of the day
At least they are a genuine Canadian Pontiac part.
Wow ! what a great looking car ! even our low end compacts looked great !
I was thinking the same thing when I posted that pic, my sister had two of them, a 73 GT was a cream colour with orange stripes and then a 74 gold one after the 73 got written off. I liked the 73 better but I broke the 74 doing neutral drops, at least they covered her under warranty, never told until now
Don't these caps hold to the rim by their exterior edges mounting inside a recessed area of rims made specifically for the application...kind've like rally wheel caps mount?. If so, I don't believe they'll work on standard steel rims with the raised bumps that hold the inside of dog dish style caps?.
In short, aren't these style caps innies while dog dish are outies?.
