E-test in ontario sting

I've copied this from another site.

I've heard from a few fellow hotrodders that they've been at local meets and some Joe starts questioning their ride and after bragging about it, like, "Ya I have a new 502 Crate engine from GM in my 69 Nova" (this is only an example) the guy they're chatting with writes them a notice to take their ride for an E test (emission test). He ends up being a DOT officer and the kicker is the newer of the two is what the E test goes by!eek.gif A 69 Nova with a 2009 502 must meet 09 E test standards, it makes me glad I have all older BB's. It's so disappointing that they feel so necessary to go out of their way to bother folks in the hobby!mad.gif So be careful who you're bragging to in Ontario.

Seems a bit far fetched, but then again why have some of these enforcement/goverment workers someplace where there are actual infractions going on!

BTW...Carl, good to see you on here again!

A few months back Geo Z. was mentioning how eTest guys were hanging out at shows looking at 'hood up' cars and pulling certain ones over when they'd leave..
Pretty credible source there and I think his point was leave your hood closed at shows!.

no

Thanks Randy. I'm not expecting this place to solve all the challenges this year has presented but it's certainly the best therapy I know of! (And the cheapest therapy too!!!)

Ok So where does the law state that you have to bring in in this case a 69 nova for a e-test ?? or is this more of a whole " inspection "
My word would be less then pleasent to the joe in question I have read that some MTO officers are making up their own rules when pulling over older cars around toronto . mike.

Umm 69 nova's have a air pump ??

I have a hard time believing that. The drive Clean program uses the year of the vehicle, not the engine that's in it. There's nothing that I've ever seen in any of the policy and procedure books that say anything about older cars with modern engines. Now modern cars with engines that weren't available from the factory are classified as "Hot Rods" and tested as such with different standards (often a little more forgiving than with the stock motor). Where would Drive Clean get emission standards for a 502 when no production vehicle is sold with one?
I'd file this under urban legend.

I think the harder thing to believe would be the part about a government employee working on a weeknight / weekend

plus e-testing does go by the vehicle not the engine
so all emmission peices must be attached & working that were equipped at the factory
( eg: convertor/s , smog pump .etc )

a 1969 nova would have to meet the emmision requirements for a 1969 nova , witch are nill to none , unless its a california car  ... correct me if i'm wrong

I seen a tuner car today pulled over in London, you know the type, slammed, big wheels, fart can exhaust. Cop was under the hood, young driver sitting in the car not looking happy. Would they have been looking for nitrous?
