Thats one of those " I wish I could have it " cars .  Any one know the production figures for 409 64's ?

I believe the number to be around 200 in total for 1964, including all models.

Here's mine:

I have seen both of these cars. They are OK, but in my opinion not worth the $$ being asked. However, the Pontiac is probably the better deal of the two. This dealer has had it for a long time; I also saw it online from another owner several years ago.

disbelief NOT A REAL 409 CAR.....

Went to buy car and asked for paperwork. They sent me paperwork but it's a original 327 car. Still a cool car, but not what I wanted.

Hi Bill

I know of a real 409 4 speed car hardtop in B.C.-has a 350 in it now but the original motor is available from a fellow in Calgary-paperwork on the car is one of 10 I think-I'll forward the info to you if you like

The seller is a nice guy. He was straight up about another car he had there that had a correct motor for the year but not the original motor. I suspect the same here for the Pontiac.

With regard to the discussions about the 64 Parisienne 409 convertible,..

I'm surprised that someone actually went to the trouble of going to check out the paperwork to find out that  is was NOT a factory 409 Parisienne.  A few glances at the online photos would have told you that it wasn't an original numbers mathing 64 Parisienne 409 convertible.  It's missing the resistor block on the firewall,  the fan shroud is wider that a 409 car (the one on it is for a small block car),  a Canadian factory 409 car did NOT have the 409 emblem on the fender (it was a "V8" emblem for ALL engines regardless of size) And the hubcaps are from an American car,.. (Canadian Parisienne's never had spinners unless  it was on a Canadian Custom Sport)

That being said, it's a beautiful car with a rare engine!!  If the work was done professionally ,.. 25K is still cheap even if it's not a "REAL 409 Pontiac" as someone put it.   If it has a rebuilt passenger car 409 engine ,.. the motor alone would sell separately for $9000 - $12000.00.  Even minimal bodywork and quality paint would run $10,000.00.  So there you are ,... you haven't even covered the cost of the interior!

In response to Pete who mentioned,.. he likes "REAL real cars",...
I have to laugh when I hear remarks from dreamers like this.  What do you mean you like "REAL real" cars?
You like to buy them?  If that 64 Parisienne 409 convertible was a matching numbers car,.. you's spend $40,000+ for it.  And I doubt you're a buyer.  If you mean that you like to look at "REAl real cars",... that's even more of a joke!  Because if it was a properly cloned car,.. you'd never know the difference!  So how much less satisfaction would you get out of looking at a car like this ,..which is not a "numbers matching car"  ,... and not knowing the difference as you looked at it?  Get "real" Pete!  Unless you are an investor who needs a matching numbers car for an investment,.. there's no difference in the appreciation in the machinery,.. cloned,... matching numbers ,.. or not.  An if you were an investor looking for a matching numbers 64 Parisienne 409 convertible ,. and you found one ,.. you would NOT appreciate it anyway!  You wouldn't want your investment to drop in value ,.. so you would put it up on blocks in a climate controlled garage,. and you'd never put any miles on it.  Then.,,,once or twice a summer ,.. a few of your buddies would come down ,.. you'd walk into the garage with beer in hand,...  and play that moldy oldy by the Beach Boys for the zillionth time ,... then start the engine and rev the tar out of it as you push another beer past your belt.,,, and look at the vanishing hair lines of the buddies around you.,.. still wondering what it must be like to actually drive the car!!

Hey guys,.. for all you "numbers matching" must have's out there ,...
Have some fun and enjoy those cars while you still have the chance before your "final ride" in the back of a black limo.  It's nothing but a waste of money if you don't.  And if you're concerned about an investment, ... try the New York Stock Exchange ,.. and leave the cars for individuals who know what they were actually made for,... driving and having fun!

Wow, a number of offensive comments in this judgemental rant.  The most off-the-mark comment likely being "leave the cars for individuals who know what they were actually made for,... driving and having fun!"  Clearly you haven't done your homework to "learn your audience" before unleashing this.
But hey, you're new here.  If you pay attention, you will learn.smile

Veryg good point, I do as well, as I'm sure most on this site will.

Not sure though how one can take a fella's signature line "I like REAL, real cars", somehow label him a "dreamer" and unleash the fury on him?... hmm

It just ain't seemin like good manners...smile

There are plenty of posts on here that are offenssive.  I'm at the age where I try not to get worked up over things anymore. I have a lot of respect for individuals who choose not to be politically correct and call them as they see them. Seems we all have to pussyfoot around all day, especially if you work in an office. This is a refreshing change.

I thought we had a thread about numbers matching and most members did not care and love to drive them. This would of been good in that thread and we would have agreed with him.   Any way welcome and hope this is not your first and last post.       Got any good pics of your Poncho ?

Here is that thread:

http://canadianponcho.activeboard.com/forum.spark?aBID=118110&p=3&topicID=30838630

Welcome R Johnston, I think I would like to meet you too.wink

Seriously though, I agree with his viewpoint.  I think people who put numbers matching cars up on blocks and never drive them are fools, that is not what they were meant for.  Why were these cars so desireable in the first place?  Because of how they PERFORMED!  As a kid, I longed to see a big block "peel out" and "pull" another car.  The muscle car enthusiast crowd back in the 60's/70's would be shocked to see so many cars today sitting around like antique vases gathering dust.  And if that original LS6 blew up, so what?  Get a replacement block and get'r back on the road ASAP.

If you really want to experience what these cars for meant for, you have to go to one of various muscle car drag races.  My favourite is the Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race held in Michigan each year (I've got to get around to posting some pics from that) but there are others as well such as F.A.S.T. races and the race at Martin, Michigan each spring.  I want to emphasize that many of these cars are pristine, "museum quality" restorations and that the owners have no problem flogging the living daylights out of them and using them for what they were meant for!

Oh, what the heck, here are a couple of pics from this year:
