He thought it looked pretty good. He's gonna paint it in pieces. hood, trunk, doors and fenders off. Then I will have to be extremely careful upon assmebly. probably in sept, it will get painted. I hope.

I would advise against that unless you take the time to pin the pieces. The hood and trunk have to come off but the doors and fenders I would leave. I am not a good enough body man to pull that one off, but I'll bring some beer and give you a hand.
When I finally got my Rag painted in '95, that is how we did it. All the panels were hung up and painted inside and out, then assembled and repainted. That was probably overkill, but she did look good when it was finished......

doors have to come off to do the jams, fenders have to come off to do behind, Lids have to come off to do the underside. I won't be puttin it together, bodyman will be with my help. LOL. Doors have to be painted on the inside as well as hood and trunk.
I just ment when you shoot the final base, clear the car should be assembled. The undersides and jams must be painted off the car. It just sucks if you chip it and the paint is super soft for a month.
Hi: I've been restoring cars for thirty years. Have always painted the cars apart. Hang the parts the way they live on the car when painting them. Double mask all edges before assembly. You'll do just fine.
I can't wait either, BUT Guess What, we have to. LOL. Thanks for the good words, and next year we WILL be taking it to the all Pontiac show in Surrey, I hope, LOL. Unless it breaks down, YUK. OH never mind it will go.
Removing parts to paint jams and the inside of the hood, trunk and doors is a no brainer. You can hang the parts and paint the inside and outside all at one time but it can be difficult to reinstall the part without chipping or scratching the paint. When I did mine I decided to paint the underside and the jams and reinstall the panels before painting the exterior. If you don't want any tape lines in the jams when you paint the exterior you can roll the edge of the jam when masking and it will leave no tape line.
