carter wa-1 717s carbs

when I was working on the 1950 pontiac today, I cycled by hand the throttle linkage, and crappy stinky foul smelling gas spewed out the side of the carbutetor, at some point it had lost a pressed in plug , took it off and to a carb rebuilder who identified the problem but did not have anything small enough to plug it. he suggested maybe a dab of jb weld might work but I need to spend some time cleaning it so that stuff sticks to it

so I am looking for suggestions on where to get a replacement or an alternative make that will fit without too much hassle

motor is flathead six 239

thanks Bill in red deer, ab

will get a pic tomorrow fitz, from another board I have got a possible repair method, after I do some cleaning, I will try that repair method, but it means I got to do a little shopping for the media, will keep you informed as to the progress. In reading through the manual it is the hole just below the pump jet, however  it says under installation on installing the pump jet and jet passage plug and gasket assembly. be sure the small hole in the casting from pump jet passage to outside is open, so now I am wondering

Since I haver never worked on anything like this, I thought it might be easier just to buy a replacement .

talking to the idiots at the local auto supplier places is nuts, oh my books dont go back this far or well I found the only single barrel is for a chev truck

Since the gas was coming out where it should not have, the Carb has been sent for a rebuild,  There was no way I was going to try and tackle it myself
