Yeah I posted this for a guy in Beaumont AB who wants to come a pick some parts from it. My younger brother had fixed it up about 30 years ago (holy moley, is that ever a long time ago!) with a flip front end etc, but it never really suited it.
My bro is now thinking about making a 55 Chev 4 door hardtop out of it(which is intriguing as a styling exercise as Chev never brought those out until 56) so doesn't need the Pontiac trim.
I'm not sure how rare these were. Maybe I should tell him if you guys know.
Its been sitting on the ground for a while so I don't know what we'll see. If it is solid and somebody out there has a complete but slightly rusty 56 4 door sedan for parts it would make a real neat restoration alright.
I think most of the hardtop parts are there except for the lower back windshild frame which I don't think we ever found.
I'm quite sure my brother could be persuaded if someone was going to save it. He has other priorities right now.
I suspect survivors of this particular model would be few and far between.
I stripped one of these last year - it was the rustiest car I ever had. The back doors literally fell right off it. I did manage to salvage lots of parts thought - side glass, rear window and trim, some side trim, interior pieces, window regulators. NO Laurentian scripts, so don't ask:)
Hey guys as a result of this forum my brother has now changed his tune and wants to eventually restore this rare beast, so he won't be selling any parts from it. I don't know if thats good news or bad for the guys reading this, so I'm sorry if I got anybody's hopes up for parts. If fact I have to ask Mr 57 if the parts you stripped were from a four door sedan or a four door hardtop becuae he might be looking for a lower rear windshield moulding (its always been mssing on his.)
In a few day we are going to stick that poor thing back on a frame to see how bad it is. If anybody knows a 56 with semi-decent front sheet metal(preferably a 4 door sedan or hardtop for door trim drop me a line on this. I'm going to post the cowl tags with the body number and if anybody can tell me any thing about it we'd be grateful.
Again sorry if I wasted anybody's time but some time it takes a while before you realize that what you have isn't actually junk. God knows we've trashed enough good cars in our time.
