66 convertible switch question...

Has anyone replaced their switch before?  Although I believe the chrome switch is from a GTO, are the switch "guts" GTO as well?  I'm having a hell of a time installing my replacement GTO switch.  To make matters worse, it was removed prior to me owning the car, so I didn't see it before it was taken apart.  Also, where does it mount?  Above the instrument cluster as shown in the '66 manual, or near the handbrake (where I think the Chevelle had it)?
Suggestions welcome.
thx

Thanks for the response.  So how is it possible that I don't seem to have a hole in my dash pad where I assume the switch would go?...

Thx.  I would have thought that there would be a hole for the thread of the switch to hang down through?  Much appreciated...

if I remember correctly-the handle/knob slides through the slit-maybe it does screw up there-I'll check

Went out to the garage with a fresh outlook (and a flashlight.)  Found the hole, clear as day.   Poke a hole in my toe, and call me leaky!
Thanks for the feedback.  New GTO switch seems to work perfectly...
Good night.

Glad you got things squared away!.

No idea if it works for the vehicle in this thread but always keep in mind that some wagon rear gate switches interchange w/ some power top switches on GM cars so are worth looting when you spot them on boneyard adventures..
