Heater core removal Question Help Please!!!!

When  I take  the nuts off  the five bolts on the engine side of the firewall, the bolts don"t want to push through to the  inside side of the firewall , and the inside head of the bolt is flat like a rivet. Is there a special way of getting these out so I can access the heater core?? Do You tap on them from the engine side??

those bolts/studs are attached to the inner half of the heater box. once you have the nuts off and the hoses removed, you can pull the inner box half off the firewall.

be certain not to forget the one usually hidden by the inner fender.  They're presuming you're taking the fender off when changing the heater core.

In the 66 Pontiac,Beaumont, Acadian Chassis shop manual,it says to remove two screws, and five nuts. I knew about the nuts but not the screws, they are apparently near the blower motor.  On a Beaumont , do these screws need to come out,and if so do you have to lower the inner wheel well, or just open it a little .

only the 5 nuts need to come off. the other 2 screws are holding the outer half to the firewall, no need to touch them.
