I did no sports in school, hated it. Our son is an excellent athlete and I'm loving going to games. However, I have had to remind him that sports won't take him through life. He still has to have a "trade" or "skill" of some sort.

Way to go Dad, good cheering. I have to echo that watching your kids play is just so much more enjoyable than any pro sports unless of course they are playing. And you never know where it can take them. I'm planning to catch the Langley cruise after the long weekend but I also want to watch my oldest daughter play uninversity soccer at the coast so hopefully we can combine it. She was fortunate with sports and landed a $96,000 full ride scholarship for 4 years so I still try to take every oppurtunity to watch her play. Congratulations Dad, those are some of the greatest memories.
Carl This is just to get him away from his playstation
We have an ex BC Lion coaching and he has taken so many hits that I'd hate to see his hip X rays
When the PS2 came home, we made rules. Homework first, no more than 1/2 hour per day, it's OFF for July and August, also any nice days where they could be outside. (We have 35 acres here!)
Our TV is off except for a very rare occasion. I refuse to have my kids grow up with a TV habit. My wife and I both had the TV on every waking moment before we had kids and we had an awful time kicking the habit when our oldest was born but we were determined to do it.
Our daughter has curled, played volleyball, basketball and soccer.
Our son has done the same.
If they want to cultivate habits like TV they can do it after they leave home!

That's great Kim, as a long time Hockey Coach I could go one and on about the benefits of sport on the personal development of our young people but in the end it's all about Fun and there is no more Fun than winning a Championship.!
Congrats to your lad also you and yours for doing the sports parent thing!.
My two lads 14 & 15 are sports crazy too...hockey and lacrosse teams also school football etc.. The 15 year old made the Peterboro' Lakers B Lacrosse team this year and had a great season w/ a few out of town tourneys including Sudbury in July.. Both have Y memberships too also spend their spare time doing what else, road and pond hockey!. As a single parent it's been tough paying the fees and equipment over the years but well worth it as they're great kids and not mall rats like many of their school mates.. I gassed the cable TV a few years back too...best move ever and we suffice w/ the 3 channels that come in by antennae..
As for cars, the older lad likes them and knows a lot of them by year and model but neither have a desire to wrench on anything...far different than me at that age!.

Thanks guys. We even start cheering at practice with our weaker players when they tackle someone for the first time. I'd rather watch kids play than the Pro's. Way better Football........Same with Hockey..just fun to watch.
