you sure about the 267 part? From info I gathered from a 350 book, 3970010, dip stick on drivers side for pre 1978 - it is definitely a 350, 1969-79

No, I just took my decoding lesson this week. Pete or Bob will know for sure.  Is it blue?

Did you take off the oil pan to see the mains? 2 or 4 bolts?

C4N definitely shows up as a 267 but your other number does cross reference to the 350.

sorry, but an 010 block is indeed a.....350! aww
what's the casting date, it's on the bellhousing flange, just aft of the distributor.

could be a 4 bolt block, 'most' i've seen were. an 8" balancer is a good indicator.

I agree with that but the suffix code C4N ? Of course being Canadian it might not be listed in the US publications.

not a 327, that block was 350 only, although listed in CBTN as used for some '69 302s.
'69 blocks were 4 bolt mains, '70-'80 blocks could be 2 or 4 bolt, alot of truck usage later '70s.
rumor was these blocks were of higher nickel content, therefore a bit stronger.

the 267 had a tiny 3.5" bore(smaller than the original '55 265), with the 350s 3.48 stroke.

Can someone explain the K0130C4N meaning then. I know it is a GM Canada engine, does all that nickle stuff apply to different foundaries, remember most if not all US publications have no idea there was a foundry and plant in St. Catherines.

I'm feeling more confident in my assessment now that we know it is a 2 bolt combined with the engine code. Sorry cry

That c4n code is a bit of a head scatcher .   I have a 010 block and its a 350 4 bolt main truck engine.   Code TKY  74 block.  Got the info from the same place you did 73SC. Seems to match info in my case.

K0322   Mckinnon block March 22nd

4B28    cast date   74 Feb. 28th

TKY      74 Truck 4 bolt main.

One thing I have noticed that you can have the same code for different years for different engines. Example code CHA

1973  307

1975  350

1980  305

1980  350 (same year as 305 but different engine)

1988  305

Perhaps C4N was also but not noted in the online suffix  list.

Just as an aside, all trucks got 4 bolt mains right up until the end of small block production useage in 2005.  So if you see a late model GMC or Chevy truck or any year for that matter in a slavage yard with a 350 it is worthwhile. The last two versions the L05 (1987 -1995) was primarily for trucks but it did get used in 9C1 Caprices and RWD Fleetwoods, optional on B Body wagons. It has 300 lb ft of tourque. In 1996 it became the L31 Vortec (1996 - 2005) with Vortec heads and intake, very powerful and lots of torque - 365 lb ft, My Suburban has this unit. They even used this in Top Kicks so that tells you something.

The 350 is still manufactured as a Goodwrench replacement crate engine and it uses 4 bolt main caps. This crate engine comes in several variations. The lowest priced uses the pre-1986 four-bolt casting molds with two dipstick locations; pre-1980 on the driver's side and post-1980 on the passenger's side. It is a good value imo.

TDJ  code was for a 72 truck 350 and 1980 truck 350.   You would need date code and block number to figure what year. Is it a 4 bolt main ?

Just a note, TDJ also shows for a 92 454.  So you can see how Suffix codes can be confusing. Date code and block numbers more reliable I think.

It's on the edge of my neighbors property. I'll have to flip it over and look.

I agree on multiple code useage but wouldn't you think by now every possible code for a 350 would have been documented ?

Hey 80GPLJ what type of vehicle did you pull this out of?

Once someone nails down the code K0130C4N we will know what it was originally installed in. No one has explained the suffix code yet confuse

It didn't come out of a truck since it is two bolt main caps as well truck engines usually have a really long dipstick tube plus a long oil fill tube fitted on one rocker arm cover.

Bumping this this morning. For me I hope it is a 350 but I want to know for my own education. Someone who knows, please decode that engine code and especially that suffix code.

I pulled the pan and checked bore, it is a 350 but the C4N suffix - possibly a goof at the factory?
